self-reflection activities.

Step 1: Deciding how to approach your self-reflection:

Whether you’re reflecting on a professional development by yourself or discussing it with colleagues, there are several
approaches you could take. Use the list below to decide which time, place, and format is best suited to your needs:

learning alone: with colleagues:

Recording your thoughts in a diary Discussing your learning in the staffroom

Answering short reflection questions Talking with teachers in an online forum

Discussing ideas at a conference
Step 2: Self-Reflection:
Whether you’ve attended a conference, read a book, or listened to a podcast, it’s important to think about what you’ve
learned afterwards. Try using the following questions to structure your reflection:

Name of Activity:

What did the activity help

me learn about myself and
my practice?

What questions do I still

have about the topic?
Where can I learn more?

What ideas from the

What outcomes would

I hope to see and how
can I measure them?

Based on the outcomes,

what steps could
I take next?

Step 3: Discussion with others:

Discussing a professional development activity with peers, regardless of whether they took part in the same activity,
is a great tool for reflection. Try exploring the questions from Step 2 with your colleagues. You could also ask them to
discuss any questions you still have about the topic, or share their thoughts and questions about the issue.

Make notes about what your colleagues think and how it might impact your approach:
