Improving Conversation Skills: Practice the conversation with a partner

Dialogue one

A: I didn't really like the movie. Did you like it?

B: I tried to understand it, but I could not.

A: Yes, they used too many slang words.

B: The actor's achievements were really great, but his accent was terrible.

A: You're right. Have you ever seen Avatar?

B: Not yet. I heard that it is very good. It seems that every colleague of mine has seen it, but

I haven't had time.

A: Perhaps we should go together. Every time my colleagues talked about it, I can't say

anything at all. I just keep silent and stand back. It's quite embarrassing.

B: Do you know where it is?

A: Oh, the Diamond Theater may still have it.

B: Do you have to book in advance?

A: Yes, I think so. Would you call for a booking?

B: Sure, I will.

Dialogue 2

A: Hi Jenny!

B: What's up, Andy. Long time no see. How's it going?

A: I'm doing well. What about you?

B: So-so. Let's go somewhere together.

A: Heard that there's a new theater in the center of town. Do you want to watch a movie?

B: Sounds interesting. Where is it?

A: What do you want to watch?

B: What's on today?

A: Let's see... Titanic. What do you think?

B: Whatever, I'm in.

A: Okay, so we'll watch this. What time shall we meet?

B: I'll be busy until 4 pm, so as long as it's after that is okay.

A: The film will be on at 6 pm, so let's meet at half-past five, so you'll have time to go from

your class.

B: Oh, I almost forgot. I don't know where the theater is. Can you text me the address?

A: Sure, I'll text you later. Okay?

B: Thanks. Where do you want to meet?

A: There's a cafeteria in front of that theater, so let's be there before we go and buy tickets.

B: Okay, sure. See you then. I've got to go now.

A: Okay, see you.

Dialogue 3

A: What is the most interesting movie now?

B: Grown-ups. A good choice for fun.

A: How much is the ticket?

B: A dollar fifty per seat.

A: That's alright. Five tickets, please.

Dialogue 4

A: Where are you?

B: I'm right in front of the customer services.

A: I can't see you. There are lots of people here. What are you wearing?

B: White shirt and black pants.

A: Oh, I think I saw you. I'm coming… Hey, Ben!

B: Hi, bro! Still good?

A: I'm good. How are you?

B: Fine too. It's good that we have a day off so we have time to watch a movie together.

A: That's right. We haven't watched any since three months ago.

B: Yeah. So, what are we gonna watch today?

A: I watched the trailer of Avatar. It seems good. What do you think?

B: I heard lots of good reviews too. Let's watch it.

A: Okay, sure. So, I'll go and buy the tickets.

B: I'll wait here.

A: Do you want some coke and popcorn?

B: Cup of coke and a pack of popcorn for me, please.

A: Okay.

A: I'll take two cups of coke and two packs of popcorn.

C: Anything else, sir?

A: No, thanks. That's all.

Dialogue 5

B: Have you finished your homework? We have tons of things to do.

A: Finished. That's why I'm free now. Hey, do you want to watch a movie? It has been a long

time since the last time we watched one.

B: Okay, good idea. I also need to release stress. I was up to my ears with homework last

week.

A: So, what do you want to watch?

B: Wait a minute. I'll check some new movies these days. Marvel. All of my friends discussed

this movie. I haven't watched it, so I can't join them.

A: I want to watch it too. It's really famous.

B: So, I'll call and book in advance in case it runs out of tickets. Two, right?

A: Can I take my younger sister with me? She wants to watch it too. She keeps watching the

trailer all day with enthusiasm.

B: Sure, the more the merrier. So, I'll book three tickets for us.

A: Okay? Do you want the first row?

B: That's good. I’ll call them and text you the time.

A: Okay. See you then.

B: Hi, how can I help you?

A: I would like to book three tickets for Marvel, please.

B: First of all, can I have your name, please?

A: Ariana. By the way, what time does the film start today?

B: Wait a minute. I'll check at seven o'clock. Is there any other choice? The film is also on at 8

o'clock, but we ran out of tickets at that time, four hours ago.

A: Oh, okay. I see. So, I'll take that time, seven o'clock.

B: I'll note down your information: Ariana, three tickets, Marvel, seven o'clock.

A: How long does the film last.

B: An hour and a half.

A: Okay, good.

B: Which row would you like?

A: Front row, please.

B: I'm so sorry. There are no tickets left in the front row.

A: Oh, really? Hmm, it's okay. Just pick randomly three standard seats for me, please.

B: Okay, sure.

A: Can I buy a coke and popcorn now?

B: We just accept booking tickets through the phone. If you want to buy coke and popcorn,

please come to the theater and order there just before the film starts.

A: Okay, I know. How much do those cost?

B: Fifteen dollars for three tickets, please.

A: How can I pay for that?

B: Can you give me your phone number? I'll text you the bill along with instructions, and you

just have to follow those steps.

A: Sure. It's 84775928.
