With this statement of purpose, I would be able to share my clear and vital intentions about
pursuing my proposed program, that is Tourism and Travel Management at Holland College, Prince
Edward Island, Canada in September 2022 .
My name is Harvinder Kaur, residing in Kurukshetra, Haryana. I was born on 1st November 2002, and
hold a passport no. U7806100. In this current scenario, the tourism sector is growing day by day, as
per various studies; the industry is expected to create over 45 million jobs in India by 2025. So, I
found this course lucrative in terms of future prospects in all ways.
Academic Background:
● Matriculation: I completed my Secondary Education from the Central Board of Secondary
Education in 2018 with 78.83%.
● Senior Secondary Education: I have done my Senior Secondary from the same Board in 2020
with 93.4% from the arts stream, so as to get broader picture about the tourism industry.
● Certificate: After completing my 12th, to get completely sure that tourism industry is the one
in which I want my career to be in, I completed a Certification in Tourism Management in
2021 & was awarded ‘A Grade’ by EDU India Foundation which is fully accredited by
International accreditation organization (IAO), USA.
● Language efficiency Test: I took my IELTS on 20 th February 2021 and got an overall band
score of 6.5 and within each module Listening-7.5, Reading-6.5, Writing-6.5 and Speaking-
6.0
My achievements and accomplishments are the one that makes me happy and proud.
Some of my academic achievements have been listed below:
● A+ Grades: My first academic achievement is that I have completed my education till now
with A+ grades throughout. It is the greatest achievement of my life.
● Scholarship : I had been awarded a scholarship worth INR 10,000 based on marks obtained
in my high school.
● Leadership in the classroom: I was selected as a class monitor in my high school for two
consecutive years which is also a personal achievement for me as it helped me to obtain
leadership quality which is a great personality trait. As a leader, integrity, confidence and
decision making are some of the characteristics that I have acquired.
Since my childhood, I have had a keen interest in travelling because whenever I got a chance to
travel, I never denied it, so having interest in travel always fascinates me towards exploring the
different places of my area. Further, when I started studying Geography and History, I got to know
about several destinations in INDIA which are famous as tourist places, such as- Taj Mahal, Hawa
Mahal, Ajanta & Ellora caves and many more. Later in my senior secondary, I studied units of
Geography and History like-Human Development, Transport and communication, human geography,
Through the Eyes of Travellers, Perceptions of Society, Colonialism and the Countryside: Exploring
Official Archives, and more, which provided me with the knowledge regarding the society and its
culture. After my senior secondary, I used to search more options throughout the world for my
future prospective, I searched various international sources where I got to know more and more
about the tourism sector which is countable as number one industry worldwide and I found in
WTTC’s Economic Impact 2019 report, India’s Travel and Tourism GDP contribution grew by 4.9%,
which was the third highest after China & Philippines. Therefore, I started researching deeply and
started certificate course to gain knowledge about this field specifically, in which I studied about-
History of Tourism, Event Management, Travel and Tour Operation, Culture and Cultivation, etc.
which all was enough for me to get a brief glance of the industry and made my interest grew by two-
folds. But this course being of 6-months, was just an opportunity for me to get an introduction to
this field specifically, therefore, there is still need to gain more advance knowledge and skills as I
have studied it briefly and theoretically only.
Hence, my previous education is fully related to what I’ll be studying in this course and my previous
knowledge will act as a foundation for me to understand the advance level of topics in the program
that I have applied for in a better manner.
Moreover, Tourism and Travel Management Program at Holland College offer 250 hours of an
internship between May and October which will help me to gain practical skills and knowledge
about my career path. It also includes an international study tour which will provide an insight into
the real working environment of the industry and an opportunity to understand activities in the
field.
India is large market for travel and tourism. It offers a diverse portfolio of niche tourism products -
cruises, adventure, medical, wellness, sports, MICE, eco-tourism, film, rural and religious tourism.
India has been recognized as destination for spiritual tourism for domestic & international tourist.
● According to data, the travel and tourism sector generated INR 14.1 trillion (USD208.9 billion) in
2016, which is the world's 7th largest in terms of absolute size; the sum is equivalent to 9.6% of
India’s GDP.
● The scope of travel and tourism is truly immense: in the last six years, it has created 11 million
jobs and has the potential to create another 37 million jobs (estimated by the NSSO, Ministry
of Tourism) of the 120 million projected requirement by 2020.
After completion of my overall education in Canada, I will return back to my home country, and I
foresee myself working with top tourism companies of my country such as Thomas Cook Ltd (India),
Cox & Kings Ltd, MakeMyTrip, Yatra Online Pvt Ltd, and etcetera on the various designations as
Travel Consultant, Tourism Researcher, Tourism Marketing Manager, Front Office Operation
Manager, and many more with annual income of INR 10,00,000- INR 12,00,000 as per job
portals.co.in. Besides that, I want to become a travel writer or a blogger to explore renowned places
of the world and my home country as well.
Financially, my family will be responsible for funding my studies in Canada. My mother has already
paid my one-year fee of CAD...... and also deposited a GIC of CAD 10,002 to cover my one year
expenses. Also, my family will provide the next year fees and living expenses through their annual
income of INR 9, 55,480 and savings.
• Career ties: In FY20, the tourism sector in India accounted for 39 million jobs, which was 8.0% of
the total employment in the country. By 2029, it is expected to account for about 53 million jobs.
With this kind of lucrative opportunities in my own nation after having enough international
exposure, I would definitely come back to my family where I can enjoy and experience fruitful career
prospects.
In the end, I am confident that education from Canada will provide invaluable experiences and an
excellent opportunity to achieve my career goals. Once again I would like to show my gratitude
towards your kind and cooperative behaviour. As I have given all the required information about my
vision of further education abroad, I am waiting for your positive response in regard to my
application.
