Introduction:

I think one of my most distinguishing characteristics is the diversity of experiences I possess. So, here I am
introducing myself, Ananya Roy Chowdhury, a serious student with flair of Mass Media. Being a woman with
technical attitude, I have always had interest in the management sector. Travelling and understanding
different cultures of the world has always been my passion. The diversity of knowledge on various topics has
given me a broader outlook. I firmly believe all these qualities shall add on to my graduate degree.

I’m happy to get an offer from the University of Greenwich for my MA in Strategic Marketing program and I’m
writing this Statement of Purpose to help you take decision regarding my study visa for UK. My course start
date was from 24th September 2021 (According to my CAS letter) but I haven’t got my CAS letter on time
(Applied on 23rd August 2021). As now I’ve got my CAS letter therefore, I’m going to apply for my study visa &
I’ll take priority visa service so that I can get my visa decision quickly and can reach UK at the earliest possible.
I have planned to travel to UK on 3rd October 2021.

Family Background:

As far my family background is concerned, I am the only child of my parents which leads upon taking huge
responsibility to come back to them after completing my master’s abroad. I belong to a nuclear family
consisting three members, my father, my mother and myself. My father is a self-employed man having his
own printing house named ‘Lokenath Printing House’ and my mother is also having her own business of
Medicine wholesale. The annual income of my parents is INR. 9 – 10 lakhs.

Academic Background:

After obtaining my Bachelors of Media Science, I am planning to further continue my education by pursuing
Master of Arts - Strategic Marketing.

Regarding my schooling I passed class 10 under National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) with 59.8 % and
completed class 12 from St. Thomas High School, Dhanbad, under Central Board of Secondary Education
(CBSE) with 67.3% . The field of communication studies interested me during my schooling term as I had
Media Communication as one of my main subjects while in class 12 as well as in class 10. Hence, pursuing
Media Science was a fair choice. I have enrolled myself in the year 2017 at NSHM Knowledge Campus, Kolkata
under Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal (MAKAUT) and graduated with a
GDPA 6.88 on July, 2020.

Throughout my tenure of three years I was appraised with various mediums- print and electronic and also
subjects like creative writing, editing, advertising, public relations, corporate communications and new media
were some of the profound areas I was interested upon. Also, I have procured the qualifications and work
ethics which is expected from a successful graduate student. Perhaps the most important lesson I am sure I
have learnt was to be able assess one’s personnel and team work abilities. I am putting my positive foot
forward and hoping this program will inculcate all the necessary lessons in me for my master’s studies and
future career.
Internship:

Over the tenancy of three years of my course, I have indulged myself into two different internships, one in
Digital Marketing another in Advertising & Public Relations. Digital marketing helped me to build different new
strategies and techniques which further helped in captivating high targeted traffic that renders positive
results- ensuring business survival. On the other hand, advertising and public relations while operating
together, had helped me in further assistance to urge both traditional and inbound tactics which ensures
wider media engagements. These two internships accompanied me into creating an insight of responsibilities
for a management professional. From assigning tasks with urgent deadlines and accomplishing teamwork
abilities while maintaining workplace harmony. These are the few of the worthwhile lessons that I wish to
carry forward for my masters and future career.

English Proficiency Test:

As I want to go to UK for my education, I came to know about from different educational fairs that an English
Proficiency Test is very important for having part in a good education university like University of Greenwich.
So, I prepared for the IELTS Test and given the exam on 15th October 2020 with an overall band score of 6.5
with 7.5 in speaking. And this marks is sufficient enough for my entrance in University of Greenwich in UK.

Why University of Greenwich?

According to my research University of Greenwich is a one of the best places for study in the United Kingdom.
With great capability and world-class structure, the university gives the amazing knowledge to students.

There are several reasons behind choosing the University of Greenwich. As an international student, my first
focus is to get high quality education. As per my research this university set high standards for teaching quality
and I am happy to know that Greenwich’s staff is the winner of the Times Higher Education Most Innovative
Teacher Award and several National Teaching Fellows, a status which recognizes exceptional teaching.

University of Greenwich is one of the oldest universities in UK and it traces its roots to 1890. Because of its
outstanding reputation, students from all across the globe come to this university to get a high-quality
education.

If I talk about course availability, then University of Greenwich offers a wide range of courses to international
students and I have also gone through the course structure of strategic marketing in and it’s really impressive.
I have also compared this course structure with other universities but Greenwich’s my program properly
meeting my exact requirement.

Coming to other universities, this program is also available in many other universities like in Coventry
University, University of Manchester. But if I consider the fee structure, these universities have a high fees
structure as compared to University of Greenwich. Because of all these reasons I have chosen University of
Greenwich over any other university in UK.

Why not India?

I could apply in India for my advance course but mainly to gain international exposure I chose to study abroad.
In India there are lots of colleges to study courses related to my study, like Calcutta Media Institute, Narula
Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Management, University of Delhi etc. Another problem is that the
universities and colleges focus on theoretical approach of the education; they do not focus on practical aspect
of studies. That is why students lag when they are required to work in the fields. Another problem we face
here is less availability of the seats. The tuition fees in top private colleges in India, is almost like the foreign
countries. So, I decided to study abroad to gain a better future.

Why UK?

I was in dilemma whether it is better to study in India or abroad. On one hand, I have the comfort of living and
studying in own native country. On the other hand, international degree, global exposure, excellent research
opportunities & the associated career benefits are attracting me for foreign master’s degree. After all my
research and considering all pros and cons, I decided to study from abroad. Though the same course is offered
by many universities in my country, but the way of teaching here is more theoretical. Education system in UK
is different as the coursework is designed around projects and technical aspects of the subject taken. I feel
that I would be fit better in this education system rather than the in India. In UK, education is taken as a
learning process. The focus is given on practical based learning. Here curriculum changes every year according
to the requirements of Industry. That is why UK has many out of Hundred Top 100 Universities with the
government investment on international scholarships. UK has 30 best cities in the world for students based on
student mix, affordability, quality of life and employer activity. UK Universities/Colleges have smaller
classrooms which enable students to make an interactive study environment with their teachers UK also
offers a diverse range of study options for international students, multi languages and highly educated
culture, provides variety of courses and career opportunities to domestic and international students. UK
qualification and institutions are recognized globally for their high quality and excellence. While studying in UK
I would be a part of a friendly and multi-cultural environment.

Another reason to choose UK is, in my country UK education has strong reputation for its excellence and its
promises to give quality education which is required to form a strong foundation for success. Other than
above facts, I desire global exposure and multi-culture environment to be integral part of my course which I
could have missed in my country. Living and studying in UK can be very rewarding and puts one at the centre
of great social , cultural and educational opportunities , this great country caters for a wide variety of different
tastes, styles, fashions, cultures and communities, and offers an enormous range of sights and historical
buildings which are some of the most enjoyable things to see and experience. The countryside is beautiful
with many opportunities for outdoor pursuits. Moreover, with further research, I found out that there are
additional factors which put in a lot of value to my decision in selecting UK as my study destination. Those
factors are:

Education: UK has a very fine and flexible education system. There are so many colleges and universities in UK
which facilitate students to choose their college or university according to their own desire. The flexibility of
the education system allows student to choose their desire course and they can change their course after a
certain point of time if they wish to switch to other course.

Innovation: With the advent of twenty first century, technology has leaped to a level which was unimaginable
even five decades ago and we all know that UK has a stature for adopting new innovations at a faster rate
than any other nation and it enters the new millennium with one of the highest rates of internet access in the
world. Facilities for teaching, training and research are world class in terms of classrooms as well as in modern
technology.

Affordability: UK is a country which is affordable to all class of people. People can survive easily here.
Students who choose UK for their further study can get satisfaction with the reasonable education system
where they can afford their desire college or university and this feature of UK is beneficial for students to be
stand on their own feet and bear their own expenses.
Why study Strategic Marketing, MA?

I am looking for a course which will make me ready for the market as well as for a higher paid job and will be
relevant with my education.

Study an MA in Strategic Marketing to advance my skills and knowledge for careers in consultancy or for
developing effective strategies within organizations.

is why earning this degree can lead me to rewarding careers. The emphasis placed on integrating theory and practice

After studying MA in Strategic Marketing, student turns out to be an expert with the skills of influencing the general
public to buy products or services in the most creative manner. Thus, creating demand in the industry. The most career
options are in the field of advertising managing, public relations managing, market managing, media planning.

Over 2,50,000 people are presently working in this industry. The job projections suggest a growth of over 30% for
marketing analysts, advertising managers and public relations managers. The most creative, well organized candidates
with top-notch analytic and communication skills will land the best jobs .

Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited etc.

I will be returning back to India, by the virtue of my international qualification and experience I would be better placed
than my Indian counterparts and will be getting better job positions and salary package and get the salary package of
around INR 7-8lacs.

Financial Capacity:

My parents are having enough fund and they will sponsor me for my education and my living expenses during my stay in
UK. Currently I’m holding INR. 20 Lakhs in State Bank of India account to support my UK education. Apart from this, my
family has enough fund to support my study & living in UK. I have already paid GBP 8000.00 towards my tuition fees.
