My Objective for Bachelor of Information Technology course at Southern Cross University is to prepare myself
for my career goal to serve as Web deisgner. I have nurtured a strong passion to become a Web Designer. Web
Designing is a promising career opportunity which displays immense scope for interested candidates like me. In
India, one of the biggest industry, which provides a prospective scope for Web Designing as a career
opportunity is the IT or the software industry. I want to enter into this largest technical industry but with the
perfection and professional skills.
I would like to take a moment to present myself. In this statement of purpose, I intend to provide information
about my education and my professional career till date, I will give a vivid picture of myself, my background,
ambitions and my plans for the future.

I am single and currently living with my parents in nuclear family. I am permanent resident of Gali no 2, Guru
nanak ki nagri, Sirsa125055 Haryana. We are five members including me, my parents and two sibings. My
father Mr. Virender Sethi is _________ & mother Mrs. Vandana Sethi is ________. My brother is Mr.
_____singh is eldest and Sister Miss. _______ Kaur is youngest one. I come from a family that gives a lot of
emphasis to education. My parents are graduates and provided me with the best of the guidance to help me grow
as an individual. My family's annual income is approx. ____ lacs. My parents also have good bank balance to
support my further studies.

Starting off with my academics, I have done my schooling from Adarsh sr. secondary school, Lakhuana. It is
affiliated to HBSE board. I have done my secondary in 2016 with 84% and higher secondary in 2018 with 76%.
Computers and Technology have fascinated me right from my childhood and I have always had it in my mind to
choose Information Technology for my engineering. As the years passed my eagerness grew and so did my
thirst to attain higher education and now is the perfect time for me to ignite the spark in me. I have done my
high schooling with physics, chemistry and Mathematics.

Then I decided to pursue my further education in field of IT from abroad as I also believe that acquiring degree
from foreign universities will refine my expertise in the subject and help me acquire broader point of view.

So, I researched about overseas education and learned about various admission requirements such as scoring
high on English Proficiency Tests such as IELTS, PTE, TOEFL etc. Accordingly, I Started doing preparation
for IELTS Exam on 27th December 2018 and scored overall 6 bands. My individual score is Listening: 6.5,
Reading: 6.0, Writing: 5.0 and Speaking: 6.0.

Times have changed… Ten years ago and now, I have seen a drastic metamorphosis in the way my father manages his
chartered accountancy firm. Tax filing reminders via repeated phone calls to clients have been replaced by automated
emails and SMS; files that used to occupy substantial space in the office are digitized and easily searchable and
accessible, and tax return processing that was done manually is now automated and online.   These are just a few
examples. Even with the additional clientele base, I see my father more relaxed and composed with more time for leisure
and family life. Clearly, technology has been instrumental in streamlining our family business and has added to the long-
term sustainability of the organization.   Witnessing this change first hand has made me realize the need for every
organization to harness technology in its DNA in order to excel in this highly competitive, challenging landscape. My
career goal is to work as a Business Analyst with companies like Mu Sigma, where I hope to enable clients to increase
productivity by leveraging technology and their data repository. In order to acquire the necessary technical expertise in
areas of IT and data analytics, I seek to pursue formal training in MIS from Kelley School of Business.

The academic curriculum during my undergraduate studies helped me to nurture my analytical and problem-solving skills.
Courses in Applied Mathematics helped me to learn about different tools for statistical analysis such as regression
analysis, hypothesis testing and differential equations. The course on Software Engineering acquainted me with different
stages of the Software Development Lifecycle and the factors to be considered while choosing a particular model for
software development. Also, courses in Operating Systems and Programming Paradigms enabled me to gain an
understanding of the management of hardware and software resources in a system. Courses on Database Management
helped me to learn the analysis of data and the administration of databases. Perhaps the most interesting course I took
was that of MIS during my junior year where I was introduced to management of systems that are crucial for the efficient
functioning of an organisation, such as Decision Support Systems. Building on my undergraduate background, I passed
the Maharashtra Business and Training Board exam for JAVA certification with an A-grade. Along with this, I am a
certified Microsoft Technology Associate on Database Fundamentals.

About course:

Bachelor of Information technology is 3 year program. The course CRICOS code is 049940G.

This degree is accredited by the Australian Computer society. University also offers $6000 scholarships to high achieving
students and they also might get chance to be selected for honors degree. On completions of this degree I will get the
standard certificates with CISCO and Microsoft as part of degree. From the last decades, the capabilities of both
generation and collection of data has been increasing in great pace. The main factors include the computerization in all the
sectors such as business, science, government and management. In addition to these, the World Wide Web which is a
global information system has loaded us with a tremendous amount of data and information. The present scenario of
online banking transactions is a good example of the need of secure and convenient information system. This explosive
growth in stored data has generated an urgent need for new techniques and tools that can intelligently assist us in the
management of data and information. So, defining new methods and utilizing the present tools of managing information
system in a more efficient way could be a flourishing frontier in the information field for the days ahead. Beside we
should not forget: The need is great in the future.

The present world is surrounded by the data and information field. On one hand, these data present the potential for us to
discover useful information and knowledge not seen before. On the other hand, we are limited in our ability to manually
process large amounts of data to discover useful information and knowledge. So, the need of better tools and application
as well as the reliable methods of utilizing the data and information is the eminent necessity of not only today’s world but
the future also. The real-time processing and analysis of various data and information should be realized. There should be
a constant evaluation of the system indicating relatively strong work handling capacity and expansion capacity; useful for
optimization, reduction of management risks, and improvement of information efficiency.
I did 2 projects in oracle. One was about Banking System and the second was about the Super Market. The Banking
system was small software that handled all the transactions regarding bank, which provides the account holder
information, and handling day to day transactions. This software automatically updates the account holder’s account
mentioning the current balance in his account. The super market was sophisticated software, which stored the
information regarding customer, products, vendors and credit card. This software also generated various bills like
invoicing bill, receipt bill and customer payment bill.
The Bachelor of Information Technology at Latrobe University is designed to provide knowledge and
skills to become leader in the information and communication technology (ICT) industry. The program
focuses on the development of web-based business information systems. I can undertake studies in
programming, systems analysis and design, multimedia development and usage, database development,
networking and communications theory, computer security and technology management. 

I will also learn to concentrate on Information Technology knowledge including communications,

computer networking, computer-based systems, database management, software development, website
development, digital media and electronic publishing. These concentrations provides me with the
competencies necessary to plan, customize and manage secure network and operating system
configurations for optimum business applications and/or plan, design and maintain professional quality
websites and internet applications for e-commerce and other business applications.

Innovation is the rule in computer Science. I am very fond of computer and want to learn more about
computers. During my school days, I had decided to built a career in computer's and that's why I have
chosen to do under graduation in computer Science program as it's the best one which will help me to
gain the most required skills in Computer Science & Engineering. This program will provide a launching
pad to my career in future. In this program there are five major opportunities to develop skills in Web
development, software development, networking, applications development & ICT management. I wish to
pursue my professional career in web development field and want to use my skills and knowledge in this
field that will contribute in this field.

 I am really looking forward to the Interface and Digital Content Design part of the course at University, although I
have done no work on this before, I am keen to find out what this involves and help me to gain a great
understanding of how to produce design, edit, create and manipulate different media types.

Why a degree from Australia only?

After a thorough research over reputation, education quality, education format, safety, lifestyle,
weather and value for money I decided for Australia. As, I found UK is the most expensive country for
Indian students, followed by US and then Australia. In my research, I found that, on average, the
annual tuition fees are lower in the Australia ($20,320- $30,000) than in the USA ($30,647-$47,000)
and in UK ($43,100- $56,790).

Computers contributed nearly 10% Australia GDP. Australia shows the way ahead of any other nation in
computer technology, manufacture and sales and would thus provide me the best infrastructure and know-
how currently available. Besides, it is a country which patronizes Science and Technology in the way to achieve
social progress and improve human life. All these factors coupled together make Australia, an ideal place to
pursue my further studies.

When I compared Australia with other education destinations, I found that we need to face competitive
examinations such as SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) & ACT (American College Testing) in USA; however
in Australia it is sufficient with IELTS test only. Moreover, I am regularly updated through television and
other news sources that due to terrorist attacks in USA in various countries, they are not safe for living. In
addition to those, unlike Australia, countries like UK have very high currency value making it difficult to
cover up the living expenses.
Also, The degrees of UK are not generally recognized worldwide due to their shorter time span. New Zealand
has exceptionally constrained alternatives accessible and the ranking of their universities are generally low
when compared with Australian Universities. Canada usually offers diploma courses while I was looking
forward for the degree course hence the most relevant choice is Australia.

During my research I came to know that study in Australia is that the Australian degrees have national
and international recognition. There is a national policy called Australian Qualifications Framework
(AQF) which ensures that there is a uniform and recognized progression for study. Moreover, Australia
practices the ESOS (Education Services for Overseas Students) Act which is designed to protect the
standards for international students studying in Australia. This piece of legislation, amended in 2010,
delivers regulatory requirements for education and training institutions through the Commonwealth
Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). Thus I can be sure that I will gain
quality education in Australia. In addition to this, this country is known as one of the safest country in the
world for International students all over the world. Hence looking at all these aspects I decided to study
in Australia.

Australia has always been the best destination for many students pursuing quality education.
International scholars choose Australia to attain higher education because of the high quality of
education, friendly environment, diverse culture and high standards of living in the world. Besides,
Australia provides best opportunities for students based on student mix, affordability, quality of life and
recreational activities. The country is widely known for its swiftness in adopting various new
technologies. Australian education system is recognized internationally for its effective structure.

I have also assembled a good deal of information from very useful and reliable websites such as
www.studyinaustralia.gov.au and www.border.gov.au. I found Australia more secure and best for higher
education in the context of living, physical and financial safety, and laid back nature. After my extensive
research for about six months on relevant course and preferable university in Australia, I am fully
convinced that Australia is a great destination for me.

Why Latrobe University:

I have decided that the La Trobe is the best institute where I would have the best opportunity to
pursue my objectives, receive the best guidance and benefit the most. First, the entire University’s
focus on bridging the gap between the academic program and industry by joining research skills with
issues of practicing managers reflects my own devotion to implementing my ideas with practical
advances. During my course of study, I would hope to study under guidance of Dr. Somnath Ghosh
whose own work in I.T greatly admire. I specifically want to know more about information flows and
resource management and, ultimately, how managers evaluate that information in decision-making
systems in different environments. Then I want to go on to work on developing technical support for
real-time decision making.

I want to study in Melbourne because compared to other states, it has the closest weather to India. In
that sense, I don’t need to make huge physical and mental adjustments. Melbourne city is known as
the city of Innovation and ideal for aspiring students. Most importantly, Melbourne's low cost of
living helps International students at La Trobe to enjoy high quality of living standards at low cost
while maintaining full focus on studies away from all distractions.
Also, La Trobe is offering scholarships to international students and I have been granted with 15%
scholarship. Apart from this the most spectacular location of university grabs my mind. La Trobe is
based in Melbourne with 7 more campuses serving all over the Australia. La Trobe is ranked in top 2%
of the universities in the world. La Trobe is rank in the Top 400 in three major international rankings
systems: Academic Rankings of World Universities, the Times Higher Education World University
Rankings, and The QS World University Rankings. Most of the degrees will provide an an
opportunity to complete Work Integrated Learning (WIL) which gives the practical knowledge &
experience and benefits them in future. All of the staff members at La Trobe are renowned award-
winning scientists, and experts in their respected fields.

Melbourne campus is largest campus located within the world’s most live able city. The campus has
beautiful bush land area just 14 km from city centre. It is situated at Plenty Rd & Kingsbury Dr,
Bundoora VIC 3086. Also, student can live and socialize in a vibrant cultural, sporting and
entertainment precinct, open and active during the day and evening, seven days a week.

The distinguished faculty and excellent facilities of Latrobe university make the graduation program ideally
suited to my professional goals. Your university provides me a dynamic atmosphere, which will shape me to be
a thinker and a learner. The flexibility of the curriculum will give me the broad-based education which will
widen the scope of my knowledge and skills. The diversity of the student’s body will open my mind to new
influences, new ideas and new ways of doing things. The world is literally becoming a global village where
opportunities for work are transcending physical space. With the Cyberspace connections, Indian professionals
at the pursuit of knowledge are increasingly contributing to the global work force. The international education
will give me the training and the caliber to meet the global challengers. I look forward to being an active

Why Not continuing studies in India:

Australian education system has advanced technology over Indian educational System. Indian education focuses
more on theory rather than practical. Instead of taking up my generalized education in India, I have opted for
bachelors in Australia. In India Students take admission seeing the trend. For instance: if in a particular year,
majority of students are rushing towards IT or mechanical field. Apart from this, the level of education and
training provided to the students in India is not very much appropriate and adequate for this domain when
contrasted with other countries. Australian education characteristics stand tall when compared with Indian
education.

Also, In India to get admission in to the IT reputed institutes like IIT, NIIT, BITS Pilani one need to crack JEE,
AIEEE, CET entrances. Moreover, in India every second person is doing the same degree that I intended to do due
to which in future there may arise some difficulties in acquiring the desired post. In short in India we go with the
flow where as in abroad students wait until they get admission into their field of interest. Hence, securing my
future I selected Australia for my advanced studies.

REASONS TO CHOOSE SOUTHERN CROSS UNIVERSITY AS A COURSE PROVIDER

I have never travelled to overseas and to my knowledge, got no relatives in Australia, therefore, I did research in
many Universities in Australia before selecting Southern Cross University, which is more than 1600 km from
Melbourne. As a result, I subsides attention towards SCU
Southern Cross University prides itself on the relevance of the degree to rapidly changing today’s industry and
provides electives units like Entrepreneurship in IT, Data Mining which are not found in the most of the universities. 
Future Plans:

At this stage, I believe undergoing a formal training in MIS from the prestigious Kelley School of Business would set me
on the right path towards realizing my career goals. The multi-faceted curriculum that includes courses in Data Integration,
Organisation and Visualisation and Data Mining in the specialization of Operations and Decision Technologies will provide
me with the opportunity to nurture my techno-managerial skills. Also, I would love to avail the chance of working on SAP
that is the sole focus of Enterprise resource management. Working under the guidance of renowned faculty members
such as Prof. Herman Aguinis and Prof. Frank Akaiwa in addition to gaining first-hand project experience would provide
the right impetus to becoming a successful MIS professional.

Awareness for Visa conditions Implemented in Australia:

a) I am also well aware of the conditions Imposed on the student visa in Australia.

b) I cannot work more than 40 hours per fortnight when course is in session A fortnight means any
period of 14 days commencing on a Monday and ending at the end of the second following Sunday. I
can work for more than 40 hours per fortnight during recognised vacation periods offered by my
education provider.

c) I must maintain overseas student health cover (OSHC) policy for the full duration of visa.

d) I must maintain 80% attendance in my course as per education provider. Any change in
circumstances i.e address, status etc should be notified to education provider immediately. At least
50% of subjects should be passed.

e) I will get PSW permit after completion of my selected course which enhance my confidence and
also gives me a opportunity to gain industrial experience.

Future Plans:

Upon completion of my study in Australia, I will come back to INDIA to be with my family and will
definitely find good opportunity in the Indian IT industry. The Indian IT industry has displayed
potential to transform India into a globally preferred destination for IT services.
I want to become a Web developer because each and every top multinational company needs a good
web designer for Company who designs and updated regularly to remain top in the market.  There are
many of the opportunities where candidates can easily make the best out of it. Several organizations
like IBM,HCL, TCS, Infosys and many others hire candidates for the web Designer ,web development
profile so as to gain business and provide an easy solution to the problems. Web Designing in India as
a career option has gained immense prominence. An increasing number of young enthusiasts are
heading towards design institutes to be accredited with the mark of being an expert in Web design. 
I expect to earns an average salary of Rs 9-10 lac per year. Experience strongly influences pay for this
job. A skill in designing is associated with high pay for this job. Most people with this job move on to
other positions after 10 years in this field.
Upon completion of my studies, I will get some experience from Australian IT industry and utilize my
skills thereafter in India. One of the biggest industry in India, which provides a prospective scope for Web
Designing as a career opportunity is the IT or the software industry. Clients interested in getting their
online presence established are approaching the software giants to get their Web sites designed.
Therefore, the software stalwarts recruit experienced professionals who would be sufficiently qualified in
executing the deliverables in quick turn around time.

Most organizations also recruit web designers for their internal projects which have a distinct flavor of
their own as it provides the opportunity for Designers to interact with major company stakeholders who
run these internal initiatives. I am looking forward to work with IBM, TCL, Infosys, Cleveroad, Lflexion, IT
craft, Mentor Mate, Matellio, Mobomo etc. I am expecting 8-9 lacs per annum.

Web Designers are also required in the Media Industry like News or advertising agencies or even in the
education industry developing educational websites and learning material for students. Many top
companies are establishing themselves in India and generating good opportunities for employment with
good pay scale, so after my study I will look after a job here at my country and then live here with my
family for future. 

My main reason is to come back to India after completion of my study is first of all my parents and I want
to spread my knowledge in my country related to advance technology of developed country, so it will help
out to push my country in lead of development, so that in future my India also known by one of the
developed country in the world.
Many top companies are establishing themselves in India and generating good opportunities for employment
with good pay scale, so after my study I will look after a job here at my country and then live here with my
family for future.

After studying under graduation from Canada I will get international exposure and education both. So I look
forward to shape up my career in the halls of University of Regina. I can join MNC in India like Infosys, Tech
Mahindra, Wipro, TCS and many more after gaining Canadian Degree. My plan is to work with a well reputed
organization where I can utilize my skill. In India there is a very great opportunity for trained computer science
skilled persons, so International study will give me the opportunity to have cutting edge over my competitors
back in India. India is growing very fast in the Computer science fields & there is no end to the growth of its
computer world, therefore, after getting bachelors degree from University of Regina, I will get good placement
in well reputed companies & I can work on various positions like software developers, research analysts,
system and security administrators, artificial intelligence designers, computer aided designed technologists and
intellectual property lawyers.
