Dear Sir/Madam,

RE: Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) Statement

My name is Ana Erika Sanchez Katalbas, a 27-year old Filipino currently residing in Unit 60
35-39 Balmoral Street, Waitara NSW 2077. I completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology
from De La Salle University in Manila in 2012. Before graduating, I started a Human
Resource internship with Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Company which developed my interest in
Human Resources. I built on this interest by joining Shell Philippines Exploration as the HR
Associate for the multi-million-dollar Malampaya deep water gas-to-power project,
supporting a dynamic project and joint venture with the Department of Energy and
Chevron. Experiencing the multicultural and global nature of the project ignited a desire to
learn more through a formal education in business. I then began my Master of Commerce in
Human Resource Management at Macquarie University in 2016 and completed it with a
GPA of 3.4/4.0 in 2018. Following my master’s degree, I was invited by a startup venture in
the Philippines to lead its Human Resource initiatives and the business development of its
newest business unit catering to corporate, government, and socio-civic training programs.
A few months into the role, I realised that I needed further learning to equip myself with the
right skill level for such a challenge and that further education would develop those much-
needed skills. With the support of my parents who will be paying for my education, I aim to
complete a master’s degree in management/business administration.

While a master’s degree in commerce opened and trained my mind to analyse problems
beyond the people aspect of the business, I believe that completing a master’s degree in
business management/business administration will elevate and strengthen my critical
thinking skills and prepare me for the complex challenges that I will face in my profession. A
degree that is focused on business management will complement my Human Resource
background greatly. With a strong understanding and application of business theories
strategies coupled with the knowledge of integrating, empowering, and developing people
in the workforce, I will become a highly skilled contributor to my organization.

My goal is to become a multi-faceted professional who will be an excellent contributor in

any company or any industry she is in. Therefore, it is important for me to apply to the
appropriate educational institution who can develop the diverse set of skills I need to fulfill
my goals.

University of Sydney
Upon researching the curriculum of the various management programs in Australia, I
was drawn to the diverse units offered by the University of Sydney which covers
finance, accounting, marketing, project management, and people management,
among others. In addition to this, the program also offers units aligned with global
trends and the different ways a business operates. The courses covered in the
Master of Management program will broaden my thought processing and analytical
skills and the university’s corporate partnerships will expose me to real life business
cases that I may not be exposed to in the workplace. The opportunity to work on real
business cases with the university’s corporate partners sets this management
program apart from other institutions as it enables the practical application of
lessons in real life situations. Finally, being the only Australian business school to
achieve membership to the Global Alliance in Management Education alongside its
other international accreditations, University of Sydney proves to be a world-class
school. To be trained and educated by a business school with a certified global
mindset would greatly contribute to my professional development and help me
achieve my career goals.

Western Sydney University

Upon researching the curriculum of the various management programs in Australia, I
was drawn to the diverse units offered by the Western Sydney University which
covers courses in finance, accounting, marketing, project management, and human
resource management, among others. The courses offered by the university also
tackles current global issues and trends that will update my skills as I learn to solve
the unfamiliar issues faced in today’s dynamic world of business. Compared to other
educational institutions, Western Sydney University provides a more modern,
contemporary program as it covers innovation, ethics, leadership in contemporary
organisations, and managing organisations in the global context in its curriculum,
thus making it an excellent choice to develop the skills I need. The campus for the
business postgraduate students in Parramatta has one of the best facilities I have
seen. It is conducive for studying, whether in groups or as individuals, and has the
technology that students and professionals alike can benefit from which makes the
university more attractive than the others. Additionally, Western Sydney University
has excellent scholarship programs, which is a true testament of the value given to
its students.

I believe that with the quality of education that educational institutions in Australia adhere
to, completing my postgraduate degree here would most effectively develop the skills I need
for me to excel in my career. Being a developed country, education is given the utmost
importance and universities and other institutions alike aim to provide world-class
education to prepare its students to become global citizens. The style of teaching in
Australia encourages the students to hone innovation, creativity and critical thinking skills as
institutions put premium in research and development.

Having worked and specialized in Human Resources, I have a good understanding of the
human behavior in the work setting and the relevance of people in business. My goal,
however, is to be a well-rounded and holistic business leader and completing a Master of
Management degree will broaden my way of thinking beyond the people aspect of business.
As a graduate of Psychology and Human Resource Management, my natural approach to
problems are geared towards the people. I believe that this degree will break me out of that
reflexive approach to situations and help me understand the other aspects of business
management, especially in today’s dynamic environment. Gaining and honing a global
mindset and exemplary business skills would transform me into a world-class leader and I
can return to my home country, the Philippines, with new approaches to problem solving
and with a deeper understanding of the current an up-and-coming trends in management
throughout the world.

Declaration of visa refusal (not all GTE’s require this)

Because I completed a Master of Commerce in Human Resource Management last
July 2018, I filed for a temporary postgraduate visa subclass 485 in February 2019.
However, this was past the 6-month window allowed by immigration for graduates
to apply. For this, I was seen not to have met the required Australian study
requirements to qualify for the 485 visa and the visa application was refused.

I declare that the particulars given above are true and correct in every detail. I understand
that incorrect or misleading statements may result in refusal of my admission and/or
student visa application.

Kind Regards,

Ana Erika Sanchez Katalbas
