    ThetourismindustryinZambiahasbeenexistingforsomanyyears.Itsgrowthovertheyearshasyieldedpo
    sitivegrowthtotheeconomicdevelopmentofthecountry.Sincepreindependencetimes,Zambiahasbee
    natraveldestinationformanypeoplearoundtheworld,bothlocallyandinternationally.Tourismprovide
    safoundationforsustainabledevelopmentandithasasignificantcontributiontotheeconomy.However,t
    hissectorhashaditschallengesovertheyearsdespitehavinghighpotentialtocontributesustainablytothe
    GrossDomesticProductasaneconomicactivityinZambia.

    EmploymentinthetourismindustryismostlyseasonalinZambia.Thisisbecausethedrawcardsofbothlo
    calandinternationaltourismarelimitedtothedryseasonmonthsandsuffersfromnaturaloccurrencessuc
    hasfloodswhichslowdownvisitationsatcertaintimesoftheyear.Duringtheseperiods,manyworkersare
    laidoffasvisitationsbecomeverylow.Theselayoffshaveapotentialtolowerlaborproductivityandincre
    aseoperationcostsforhiringcompanies.Therefore,authoritiescancreateanenablingenvironmenttoope
    rateinandencourageyouthstobeexpertsinthisindustryandthriveinitaswellasbecomeinvestorstocreate
    employment.

    ThegovernmentofZambiahasbeenembarkingonboostingthetourismindustrybecauseitstimulatesinw
    ardinvestmentswhichgeneratesignificantrevenueanditisasourceofformalemploymenttotheyouths.
    Thuscapitalizingitstourismassetswillattractbothforeignandlocalinvestors.Tourismisanexportthatha
    sviableinvestmentsforyoungpeopleasitisinterlinkedwithothereconomicactivitiesforitsoperations.T
    herefore,morerepresentationandmarketingasonethingthatcanbespearheaded.Adiversifiedenvironm
    entwhereyoungpeoplecanmakeinvestmentscanbemadepossiblewithextensivedestinationmarketing
    intothesectorwillincreaseyouthparticipationintheindustry.Initiativeslikethesewillcontinuouslymak
    eZambiaanattractiveinvestmenthubthatwillaccelerateotheractivitiesthatareinterlinkedlikeairtransp
    ort,accommodationandcarhiresThiswillalsocreatejobsforyoungpeoplewhoaretheepitomeofecono
    micdevelopmentandthegovernmentwillcurbunemploymentandenhanceeconomicgrowth.

    LikemanysubSaharancountries,Zambiaiscomprisedofayoungpopulationwhichhasbeencrippledbyu
    nemployment.Zambiaboastsofbeingthefirstcountryintheworldtoholdawalkingsafari,withsucharec
    orditisonlyrightthattheyoungpeopleofthiscountrytellthesestoriestotheworldbybeingactiveparticipa
    ntsinthesectorandshowcasingtheirpotentialandexploringtheopportunitiesthatareinthissector.Zambi
    aisendowedwithnaturaltouristattractions,richcultureandrichhistory.Therefore,youngpeoplecanbet
    urnedintoastrongskillbasewhichcanfurtheracceleratethegrowthoftheindustryandalsoencouragegro
    wthofothersectorssuchasinfrastructuredevelopment.
