History of National Energy Conservation Day

National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated on December


14th every year since 1991 in India. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE),
under Ministry of Power celebrates this day every year. It is celebrated to raise
awareness about the importance of energy conservation and promote
sustainable practices. Now Let us know about its history.
In the year 1991, the Government established a new body
Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power. It was established
to develop strategies and policies to support energy conservation and efficiency
in all sectors of the country. And the government declared December 14th as
National Energy Conservation Day in recognition of the need to raise public
awareness and engage the public in the energy conservation movement.
The Ministry of Power launched a program in 1991 to promote
businesses and facilities who have made exceptional efforts to lower their
energy usage without sacrificing productivity, with awards.
The first-ever National Energy Conservation Awards were presented
to the winners on December 14, 1991. The day has been recognized as National
Energy Conservation Day since then.
At a ceremony on December 14 of last year, President Droupadi
Murmu presented prizes to the winners of the National Painting Competition,
National Energy Efficiency Innovation Awards, and National Conservation
Awards. On this occasion, she also launched the EV Yatra Portal. The portal's
purpose was to make it easier for drivers to navigate their cars to the closest
public EV charger. As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations in 2021,
the electricity ministry also marked Energy Conservation Week, which ran from
December 8 to December 14. In conclusion, This is the history of our National
