How Salespeople Are Robbing You Blind!

reads: ham, $Is, and in small print, per half pound.
Yet our thinking process is still "per pound."
That's exactly what the grocer us to think.
That's the reason for the small print.
To avoid getting taken on these slight of sign
tricks, you are going to have to pay close atten-
tion to what you are looking at. If it's ham you
are buying, don't just assume that because other
luncheon meats have signs that read per pound
that ham is sold by the pound. If there's no sign
on the meat you are purchasing, ASK!
Otherwise, you will be surprised at the checkout
counter. That's if you're paying attention.
Small print works great for other businesses too.
Take the carpet store for example. Most everyone
who's had the opportunity to purchase carpet
knows that it is sold by the sauare vard. Right?
Wrong. Next time you're shopping for carpet,
you'll find that many places are now advertising
by the sauare foot. Big difference in price. You
can look for "the measurement" in their adver-
tisements, store signs, and most importantly on
the sales contract before you sign it.
Carpet scams are a n easy one to "duck if you
have your room size written down. Say the room
you are planning to carpet is ten feet by twelve
feet. That's one hundred and twenty square feet.
When you are talking to the carpet salesperson,
keep your buying goal in rnind-that is, how
much will it cost to cover a room with one hun-
dred and twenty square feet. Don't let the carpet
salesperson talk to you in their terms, which
could be square m. Big difference!
