CHOOSING AN OCCUPATION

• You can decide whether to choose an occupation from the previous example,
another of your own choice or a workplace or your parent or sibling work. For
example, you could choose to look at the maths of a hairdresser or broaden this
to look at the mathematics in running a hairdressing salon.
• It may help to choose a workplace where you have access to people working in
that area e.g family members.
• You may also want to choose a career which you are possibly considering in the
future!. Be creative
RESEARCHING YOUR TOPIC

• When you have decided on your research topic, you need to start looking for
information and researching the maths used – this can be on the internet, magazines,
books, from family and friends or even by interviewing people you currently know in
the role.
• You may visit a particular workplace if you desire. This is very important because
you could attach a photo from the place you visited to your presentation.

final presentation. The project will contribute to your finals term 2 grade.
GROUP WORK

and gathering information.
• Each person should take some part in the final presentation and everyone
should agree on the form it should take.
PRESENTATION

• What form should your final presentation take? Whatever you want!! Be
creative.
• Will you produce a poster as a background?
• Will your team make a PowerPoint presentation?
• Will a video be part of your final presentation?
• The choice is yours- Enjoy
YOUR COMPLETED PRESENTATION MUST INCLUDE:

• An introduction, including why you chose your area.

• A general description of the occupation or workplace.
• A description of the various maths skills used and illustrations of them being used.
• An indication of any maths qualifications required – how do you get them?
• A conclusion based on the importance of maths in that particular workplace.
• References listing sources of information.
• Be prepared to answer any questions from people on the information presented.
WHAT HAVE I LEARNED?
