UMOJA FOUNDATION (Partnership) is a charitable organization supporting orphaned and


vulnerable children in education, nutrition, basic needs, psychosocial support,
girls empowerment, boys empowerment, guardians empowerment and general livelihood
support in Chulaimbo area, Kisumu County (Kenya).

We are looking for an organized and self-motivated Librarian who is committed to public
and customer service to join our team. As the librarian, for this brand-new library, you will
be responsible for setting of the policies and procedures for library use. You acquire and will
maintain our library collection by managing books, media, and electronic resources. You will
acquire and manage advanced electronic resources, and digital records, and help patrons
access a wide range of information. You will also carry out library administrative tasks and
organize community events.

Responsibilities

 Carry out library administrative tasks.


 Organize community events and programs.
 Organize children and teen reading events; read stories at programs for children.
 Improve patron reading skills through lessons, interactive storytelling, and hands-on
activities.
 Manage acquisitions of new materials and inventory
 Collecting, cataloging, and classifying library information materials
 Helping people locate reference and leisure reading materials.
 Maintaining library records and ensuring they are up to date.
 Overseeing the check-out and check-in process for books and other resource
materials.
 Oversee the library to ensure cleanliness, order, and protection of the library’s
resources.
Qualifications and Experience
-Diploma in Library Science, records management and archives is preferred.
-Any experience, internship, volunteering, or work will be considered.
-Excellent IT skills and knowledge of library databases.
-Outstanding organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
-Familiarity with information management systems.
-Strong organizational skills.
-Effective communication.
-A patient and friendly personality.
-Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
-Attention to detail when updating records and noting information.
-Ability to work independently or as an active member of a team.
-Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
