I taught a Math 5e lesson plan to my whole class in a 3rd grade classroom.

This lesson covered

3rd grade fraction standards and an ISTE standard.

Alabama Math Standards

3. 15. Explain equivalence and compare fractions by reasoning about their size using visual

fraction models and number lines.

A. Express whole numbers as fractions and recognize fractions that are equivalent to

whole numbers.

b. Compare two fractions with the same numerator or with the same denominator by

reasoning about their size (recognizing that fractions must refer to the same whole for the

comparison to be valid). Record comparisons using < ,>, or = and justify conclusions.

ISTE Standards 6. Creative Communicator Students communicate clearly and express

themselves creatively for a variety of purposes using the platforms, tools, styles, formats, and

digital media appropriate to their goals. Students:

a. chooses the appropriate platforms and tools for meeting the desired objectives of their

creation or communication.

For this lesson I had students follow along on Nearpod for my introduction lesson,

students were engaged in different types of activities on the Nearpod to get practice with

comparing and making equivalent fractions. After the lesson students went to Canva to create an

infographic about equivalent fractions. My students love to type and put clipart into things, so
they really enjoyed being able to make the infographic and then see them posted around the

classroom.

For this lesson what I would have done differently was tried to combine the two

Nearpod’s that I used into one presentation because I think I ended up losing a lot of their

attention while they were swapping from one presentation to another with a different code. I

noticed when I was watching my video back that I said um a lot and I did not give students

enough time to finish their part of the Nearpod where they had to work independently, I tend to

forget they are not as quick on computers as I am.

I believe that all objectives for students and my rubric for ED508 were met. The students

were able to manipulate and compare factions, then also create am infographic on Canva about

fractions. I believe that I reached the target level of the rubric for professional disposition for

professionalism, digital citizenship, and the technology management component.
