Question 1: Identify the premises and conclusion of each of the

following arguments: (6)
• Democracy is the best form of government because it ensures that
the rulers of a country are accountable to the masses.
Conclusion: Democracy is the best form of government.

Many people claim that philosophy is irrelevant to our practical lives.

But have they ever studied it as a subject? Philosophy examines
some of the most fundamental assumptions we have. It examines the
ideologies and belief-systems we subscribe to. It studies the nature
of the good life. This is why philosophy has enormous practical
benefits.
Conclusion: Philosophy examines some of the most fundamental
assumptions we have.
Argument: Value of philosophy

The 2003 invasion of Iraq was illegal as per international law. This is
because it was an unprovoked attack on an independent country.
 And because the war was not approved by the United Nations
Security Council.

We must not pay or accept bribes. Bribery ruins the legal, political,
moral and economic structure of a society.

Zaid Hamid claims that the 2008 Mumbai attacks were staged by the
Indian government. Now, Zaid Hamid is a respected political
commentator. Therefore, what he says must be true.
Answer: Appeal to ignorance.

I know so many people who have seen ghosts. Clearly, ghosts exist.
Answer: Bandwagon.

We gave Mr. Ali a chance to prove that he was not on the payroll of
RAW. But he couldn’t prove it decisively. Therefore, it is reasonable
to believe that he is a RAW agent.
Answer: Appeal to Ignorance.
