PART 1

1. From your reading, list the key points from the article.
Include at least FIVE (5) main points in your
summary. (10 marks)
(write in essay) (like Abstract)
Intro 2 marks (purpose, background, RQ, research question)
Lit R – 2 marks (Subtopics. If got, copy n paste if don’t have, figure out yourself)
Methods – 2 (Participants, instrument)
Findings – 2 (answers to the RQ)
Conclu – 2 (Limitation & Suggestion or summary of the reseult)
*each chapter write two sentence*
*Each section only 2 point*

2. Comment on the discussion and conclusion provided by the researchers in this study.
Review these sections critically. (7 marks)
Answering the questions: are the methods employed suitable? Is the selection of
participant bias? Did the author explain both quantitative and qualitative stages
thoroughly? Are the results reported in the discussion clearly elaborated? Are the
discussions supported by past research? Is the connection between past studies and
current results established? (Use the guided questions in the JAA assgm)’
*At least two paragraph*
*Example can quote from the paper*
*If write suitable method, write suitable for all RQ*
Discussion – 3 points elaborate (max 4 marks)
Conclusion 2 points elaborate (max 3 marks)

3. Motivation is an important aspect in a learning process for a student. What do you

think motivates a student? Provide THREE (3)points and explain. Include relevant
examples in your answer. (8 marks)

3 points – P.E.E
Students should be able to give three points and elaborate. Example: environment/ parents/
peers/ teachers/ classroom/ interest/ role model etc.

Section B SECTION B
RESEARCH PAPER REVIEW

There is ONE (1) question in this section. Answer ONE (1) question only.
Marks allocated : 25 marks
Suggested working time : 60 minutes
Question 1
You have written a Research Paper in your PLNG 003 class. Based on the topic that you have
written for your coursework, provide a review of your own research paper that you have
done.
1. Provide a review:
(Summarize + strength & weakness + suggestion)
*Can write only weakness or only strength*
4% for background –2 for points 2 for elaborate
4% for significance 2 for points 2 for elaboration
(Aim and RQ)
*Don’t just write summary*
*Most % will given to the strength & weakness
*For each section, 2 or more S&W
*Suggestion not necessarily need to write, it can be an elaboration on weakness
*Must point then elaboration (no elaboration no point)
a. Background of your study

Firstly, the background of study is smoking among university students is a significant

concern, with about one-third of students being smokers, particularly males and senior
semester students. Secondly, stress is strongly linked to smoking among students, as nicotine
in tobacco alters brain neurotransmitters, making smoking a perceived coping mechanism for
stress. This section's availability of citations from current sources, including those from 2011
to 2023, is one of its greatest strengths. The more current the sources, the more accurate those
will be, and the more reliable the paper will be. Besides, another key strengths of this section
is that it shows the importance of addressing smoking and stress-related issues among
university students, drawing attention to the need for prevention and support programs.

b. Significance of your study

The section of significance of the study explores smoking's relationship with high-stress
levels, aiming to develop alternative stress management strategies and reduce reliance on
harmful tobacco products. One of the strengths of this sections is that it clearly explained the
study has the potential to uncover important health implications, contributing to evidence-
based policies and initiatives aimed at reducing tobacco use and promoting better stress
management practices.

2 POINTS for each section and ELABORATION

2. How did you conduct your study (procedures, methods) (Methodology)? Is there
anything that you could improve on? (suggestions part in conclu) Include relevant
examples in your answers. (8 marks)
2- how
2- improve
4 Points and Elaboration. Write more
4% how did conduct study
4% improvement

The study was conducted with a questionnaire through Google Forms which containing 18
questions under a total of 4 sections. The study uses qualitative research on students' smoking
and stress experiences using Likert scales in questionnaires. For example, ranged from 1 to 5
and 1 for very distress and 5 for no distress, which shows the low-stress level and high-stress
level. The researchers recruited 50 students, including 15 males and 35 females, aged
between 16 and 21, from different backgrounds and research projects for qualitative research.
Then, the results are presented as evidence in the form of bar graph and pie chart. To
improve, researcher suggests having an equal or higher number of men and women in future
studies to avoid skewed results that may focus solely on one gender, as observed in the
current study with more females than males. Besides, the researcher should specify the size of
participant groups to improve accuracy and relevance, preventing time wastage in searching
for relevant articles. For example, developing clear target groups with specified age,
religions, gender or more.

3.Explain three skills that you have learned/developed while writing your research paper and
how will you apply these skills in the future research that you will be conducting.
(9 marks)

I learnt about research writing skills. Before attending the lessons, I had no idea how to write
a research paper. However, after spending the whole semester learning it, I learnt about its
format and found that it was not as hard as I thought. For example, a research paper must
have at least 5 sections, such as Introduction, Literature Review, Methodology, Findings and
Conclusion.

I learnt about comprehension skills. I learnt how to identify main ideas and key details from a
long research paper, in order to recognize the big picture in a short time. This technique is
important for me when I was doing my literature review. For example, I learnt that I can just
go through the abstract of the study instead of reading the whole research paper.
