The lyrics of “People Help the People” are heavily-metaphorical. But the meaning is
pretty straightforward, in my opinion: show kindness to your fellow man. I like the simplicity of
the lyrics. My favorite lines are:

"Oh and if I had a brain

I'd be cold as a stone and rich as the fool
That turned all those good hearts away."

Here, I suggest, the author sums up the whole idea of the song: people just worry about
getting ahead, they don't see the value or point in being a good person. Birdy points out
(author’s message) that very often we pretend we're so much better than the people
surrounding us. However, at the same time, deep down in our souls, we experience a set of the
same emotions, feelings, and silent thoughts. just residing in separate bodies. Even though the
thought sounds a bit depressing, I think the song also speaks about how every person you meet
is hiding a haunting secret about past life, etc. (hard-faced Queens) behind their smile and
everyday routines.

Although some of us have had far more fortunate lives than others, even the most well-
off have had complicated life conditions. We're all waiting to be saved. If only it was as simple
as holding a hand and showing sympathy towards your fellow being, the world would be a
much happier place. Just for a second, we could pretend we weren't so excluded from the very
beings that live the same lives, breathe the same air, and cry the same tears.

To sum up, each of us should realize that, first of all, he/she is a human who has to
support people from the near surrounding, no matter, what kind of profession or position does
he/she occupy. True personal values, like love, kindness, sympathy, generosity, and readiness
to help should come first because it was the strong God's will when He was creating the world.

The author used such a considerable amount of poetic devices to emphasize the
connotational meaning of the words, make the listeners immerse into lyrics content, and, as
consequence, help them to realize the depth of the message itself.
