I. Reading Comprehension through Unseen Passage 20Marks

1. Literary/Discursive passage of 300-350 words. (10X1=10marks)

2. Factual passage (with visual input – statistical data, chart etc.) of 300-350 words. (10X1=10marks)

Multiple Choice Questions/ Objective Type Questions (to be answered in words or phrases or fill in the gaps),
and Very Short Answer Questions (to be answered in a single sentence) will be asked to assess competencies
like comprehension, interpretation, critical thinking, analysis, inference, evaluation and vocabulary.

Creative Writing Skills

II. Writing Skills 8marks

3. Writing Formal Letter / Letter to Editor / Dialogue based on a given situation/context or Paragraph Writing in 80-100
words. 4Marks
One out of two questions is to be answered.

4. Writing a Diary Entry / Article / Bio-sketch on verbal or non-verbal cues or writing a story on given verbal
or non-verbal cues in 80-100 words. 4 Marks
One out of two questions is to be answered.

• Subject – verb concord
• Active and Passive Voice
• Direct & Indirect Speech
• Adjectives

• Use of Gerund and Infinitives

• Exercise on re-ordering words to construct meaningful sentences
Nature of test items will be as follows:
5. Gap Filling Exercise / Editing Exercise / rearrange jumbled words

The objective is to test accurate use of spelling, punctuation and grammar in the given context.

IV. Reference to the Context (4X1=4Marks)


6. One extract out of two from Prose / Poetry from the text (from the book HONEYDEW).If one extract is
from prose, the other must be from poetry)
Multiple Choice Questions / Objective Type Questions, Very Short Answer Questions (to be answered in a
word/phrase or One sentence), to assess competencies like inference, analysis, critical thinking, interpretation,
evaluation and vocabulary.

V. Short & Long Answer Questions 16Marks

7. Four out of five Short Answer Type Questions to be answered in 30-40 words from the book HONEYDEW
(prose/poems) to assess interpretation, analysis, inference and evaluation. 4x2=8marks

8. Two out of three Short Answer Type Questions to be answered in 30-40 words each from the book IT SO
HAPPENED to assess interpretation, analysis, inference and evaluation. 2x2=4marks

9. One out of two Long Answer Type Questions from the book HONEYDEW / IT SO HAPPENED to be answered
in about 100 words each to assess creativity, imagination and extrapolation beyond the text and across the
text. 4 marks
