Good day everyone, who among here is in a relationship? I hope some of you
lovey-dovey know your limitations. You see our barangay has been facing a big
problem on large family members and teenage pregnancy. I’ve been advocating on
preventing and lessened this issue since I know that it has negatively affected many
families, especially the poor. Hopefully at the end of this speech you will understand
and learn. According to the Population Commission (POPCOM), about 200,000 teens
gets pregnant annually, most of whom are 15-19 years of age. In the Philippines, over
33% of the households have 7 or more family members while 20% of urban and 27%
of rural households have 4 or more. The risk of poverty associated with increased
member of children are 44-55% for 1 child and 60-78% for those with 5.

In order to decrease or prevent this, I come up with a solution. First is learning

safe sex. Condoms should be used for any kind of sex, including vaginal, anal, and
oral contact. Consistently and correctly using condom during sexual intercourse can
reduce the risk of STDs and STIs and pregnancy with up to 99% reliability (Noriega
C. et. al., 2024). However, using condom has a disadvantages for example, excessive
friction during intercourse may cause the condom to tear and may result to unwanted
pregnancy. Second is using birth control pills, it is safe, simple and convenient way to
prevent pregnancy. All you have to do is to stick to your daily pill schedule and make
sure to start a new packs on time and that’s it. But if you use birth control pills, you
may experience side effects that may include headache, breast tenderness, nausea
(sometimes with vomiting), and bleeding between periods. Combination with birth
control pills may cause depression and change in libido (sexual desire).

We also create a family planning program so that people in our baranggay can be
disciplined on building a family. Examples of the methods we offer is the female
sterilization. It is an outpatient surgical procedure that blocks the fallopian tubes,
preventing eggs from travelling down the tubes to the uterus and blocking sperm from
fertilizing the egg (KFF, 2018). Unfortunately, the risks of STDs and may lead to an
ectopic pregnancy where your tube may burst that could cause severe bleeding and
emergency surgery is needed (Reese D. & Moring N. , 2024) . There is for males that
is called a vasectomy (male sterilization) is a surgical procedure to cut or seal the
tubes that carry a man's sperm to permanently prevent pregnancy (NHS, 2021). It
usually carried out under local anaesthetic, where you're awake but don't feel any
pain, and takes about 15 minutes (NHS, 2021). These procedures are nearly 100%
effective (WebMD, 2023). In very rare cases, the tubes can rejoin. If that happens,
sperm could leave your body and cause a pregnancy (WebMD , 2023). Complications
are kind of rare but if happens, this includes bruising, inflammation, and infection
(WebMD, 2023). There are rare symptoms too from the surgery such as discomfort on
the testicles, sperm granuloma ( a hard lump or inflammation cause by leaking
sperm), and spermatocele (a cyst in the tube that collects sperms) (WebMD, 2023).

"Be smart, be wise, avoid teenage pregnancy and rise."

DISCUSSION OF POSSIBLE OUTCOMES:

1. What do you think the keys to accomplish your goals?

With motivation, determination, cooperation and effectively communicating my message to

the people of my barangay. I can achieved my goals and significantly contribute in decreasing
or preventing the teenage pregnancy and large family size in our barangay.

2. What do you think the factors that may hinder the couples in your barangay to
accept you suggestions? Why?

I think the factors that may hinder the couples in our barangay to accept our
suggestions is the lack of knowledge that misinformation of these topics can lead to
misconceptions and fear and the Certain cultural or religious beliefs may discourage the
use of condoms, family planning methods, or open communication about sexual health.
