had to be put up, a committee of 10 prefects was constituted to plan different aspects of the
functions. They all decided to use re- cycled paper for decoration. There was a spirit of unity
& harmony and all members supported each other. With mutual trust and belongingness the
programme was systematically planned & executed. Kartik, one of the prefects realized that
unknowingly the group had applied one of the principles of management while planning &
executing the programme. He was so inspired by the success of the function that he asked his
father to apply the same principle in his business. His father replied that he was already
using this principle.

TOPIC-BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT
1. The goods & services tax (GST) Bill comprising the most revolutionary tax reform of
the country was passed by the Parliament recently in August, 2016. It proposes a
national Value Added Tax to be implemented in India from April 01, 2017. It is one
of the most significant reforms since India opened its economy 25 years ago and
the revamping of the tax system since the country's independence in 1947.
It would be a significant step in the reform of indirecttaxation in India.
Amalgamating several Central and State taxes into a single tax would mitigate
the cascading or double taxation. From consumers’ point of view, the biggest
advantage would be in terms of reduction in overall tax burden on goods, free
movement of goods from one state to another without stopping at state borders for
hours for payment of state tax or entry tax and reduction in paper work to a large
extent.

2. P.V.Sindhu is all set to get many rewards for fighting the most intensive battle of
her sporting career by fetching an Olympic silver medal at Rio. The Telangana
Government led the list declaring cash award of Rs. 5 crore as well as 1000 sq
yards of land, besides a job for her. Andhra Government is also awarding cash
prize of Rs. 3 crore to the badminton star. The purpose here is to encourage the
sports personalities of the country.
Another report by a Parliament panel reveals that the Centre and states together
generally invest only 3 paise on a person per day for sports and that this is costing
India medals at the Olympics. Against the backdrop of the meagre spending by the
government on players, the sports department has urged both public and private
companies to contribute towards a national sports development fund (NSDF) and
also sponsor athletes. Thus,the government needs to make investmentin sports
and growth of sportspersons and not just shower the rewards on those who
manage to win somehow.

3. As per a newspaper report,” Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said
the number of farmers opting for the 'Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana' this year is
expected to cross four crore, as against three crore last year.
As many as 200 mandis across the country would be brought under the ambit of the scheme
by next month. 400 mandis would be made online by March next year, while 585 mandis
would go online by 2018, he said. Singh said, "The scheme aims to make agricultural
practice risk-free for the farmers, but the leaders in order to serve their own political
agenda are not able to comprehend it."
"Earlier, crop insurance schemes profited insurance companies and farmers were not
compensated for the losses due to crop damage caused by natural calamities after the
harvest. Besides, premium rates differed according to location," he said.
But this scheme is farmer-friendly. The farmers are required to pay only minimal premium
and can claim compensation for losses caused by natural calamities up to 14 days after the
harvest, the Union minister said.

Alarmed over the rise in attempted ‘Vishing’ frauds, SBI Card has alerted customers
not to fall prey to fraudulent callers and disclose key information like credit card
PIN and passwords. A ‘Vishing’ call involves a fraudulent caller posing as an
employee from a financial institution/bank/credit card firm, asking for credit
card/bank account as well as certain other personal details. The modus operandi of
such calls is to offer you a very attractive discount/gift package/card
upgrade/reward redemption offer/credit limit increase and lure you into sharing
sensitive card/bank account information. After procuring details such as CVV, One
Time Password, PIN, Internet Account password the fraudsters may attempt
fraudulent transactions on your credit card/ bank account.
“We at SBI Card never ask for any such sensitive and confidential information like
CVV, PIN, One Time Password (OTP) and Internet Login User Id and Password,”
the SBI Card stressed. SBI Card is the third largest credit card provider in the
country with 2.86 million customers. It said that if a customer is suspicious of any
call asking him or her to verify such information, please call SBI Card helpline
immediately to report the matter.

they had hacked into wi-fi network of a private bank in a mall. Here, one of the

6. Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev has plans to start a world-class university in India in the
next five years to educate around one lakh students in different streams, on 1,500-
acre land has already been acquired for it.
He has planned to build a world-class university near New Delhi akin to the
University of Houston. The cost of the project would be around Rs. 25,000 crore.
Baba Ramdev has also requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ministry of
Human Resources Development to start a Vedic education board at State and
national level to revive and promote the Indian ‘gurukul’ tradition of education. He
stated that he plans to donate 100 per cent of all profit from the sale of herbal and
food products of his Patanjali Ayurved for charitable causes and at least 80 per
cent towards education.

best player in future, for which he sets the objectives, forecasts the future &
identify various courses of action.

3. A reputed car manufacturing company in NCR is facing the problem of decline in
the market share due to its internal mismanagement. Therefore, it has planned to
increase the production capacity at its Gurgaon plant by manufacturing low priced

eco friendly cars for price sensitive consumers and introducing new models with
added features for quality conscious consumers.

4. P & G has been fast losing its share in the Indian market to its rivals. Last year P
& G had merged India, the Middle East and Africa into one IMEA region as part of
a significant reorganization to remove management layers and improve the
execution of strategy in a tough consumer market and a rising cost environment.
Despite having invested a huge amount, this huge investment has taken a toll on
its profitability. It has no longer is the market leader in its product segments like
shampoo, detergents, skin cream etc.

1. Radhika is the General Manager of Delta ltd. Radhika is facing a lot of problems
regarding some policy on sales. The organization has an aim to increase sales by
20%. and return on investment by 10%. Instead of talking to the sales department,
she directly consulted her friend Ayesha in finance department, about the
problems. She talked to her freely about her problem.
(i) Identify the type of organization followed by Ayesha ltd.
(ii) Give any one advantage & one limitation of the organization identified above.
2. At Kaka Ltd. all bills for raw material are processed by general manager himself.
He feels quite overburdened. He formulates a plan and decides to delegate his
authority to Dy. General Manager. But after some time the Dy. General Manager
also feels overburdened and with prior approval of General Manager, disperses
this authority to various levels throughout the organization. Now all bills for
travelling are processed through respective department supervisors.

1. Varun, Tarun, Ramesh & Suresh are child hood friends. They decide to take up
jobs. To enhance their skills Tarun takes guidance from the master trainer for a
fixed duration ; Varun ‘s training involved shifting him from one department/job to
another for better understanding of all parts of the business ; Suresh is guided &
instructed by the manager who sets mutually agreed goals reviewing & suggesting
changes in behavior & performance & Ramesh though still pursuing his education
takes training in an organization to acquire practical knowledge & skills. Identify
the different types of training taken by four friends.
2. The workers of ‘Vyam Ltd.’, are unable to work on new & hi-tech machines
imported by the company to fulfill the increased demand. Therefore, the workers
are seeking extra guidance from the supervisor. The supervisor is over burdened
with the frequent calls of the workers. Suggest how the supervisor, by increasing
the skills & knowledge of workers, can make them handle their work
independently? Also state any three benefits that the workers will derive by the

said that he was neither related to any of the employees of the organization nor there was
any advertisement in the newspaper. Even then he was directly called
from IIM Ahmedabad from where he was about to complete his MBA.

opportunities to men & women. For this he wants four different heads for sales, Accounts,
Purchase and Production.
He gives an advertisement and shortlists ten candidates per post after conducting different
selection tests.

1. Honda cars India is facing a peculiar situation, forcing the company to halt
dispatches to dealers. Half the vehicles manufactured at its Greater Noida factory
were detected with spots on its paint & were thus damaged. On analysis it was
found that the workers were not at fault. The spots caused were because of paint
fumes from the adjoining plant.

faculty after having observed late arrival of its faculty .The same is resisted by the
staff.

metric attendance failed to serve its purpose.

brand name THREAD FACTORY. He decided to fix up the prices at a level which
is not afforded by all to create a niche market for his clothes.His friend advised
him to get his brand name registered.

Q2 PATANJALI AYURVED LIMITED is an Indian FMCG company.Manufacturing
units and headquarters are located in the industrial area of HARIDWAR while the
registered office is located at DELHI. PATANJALI AYURVED sells through nearly
4700 retail outlets and is planning to open outlets at Railway station and airports.
As per the tie up with FUTURE GROUPS all the consumer products of
PATANJALI will be available for direct sale in FUTURE GROUP outlets.
In the context of the above case

Q3 NESTLE has launched four variants of MAGGI cuppa noodles and MAGGI
hotheads each in a day to fend off competition.Besides,it has also launched "NO
ONION NO GARLIC" NOODLES.After the five month ban, NESTLE INDIA
relaunched MAGGI noodles in the Indian market. Within nine month of its
relaunch post ban, MAGGI regains its market share. "NO ADDED MSG"
information was removed from the packet of noodles.

1. Mr. Madhav was a top broker in the stock market, indulged into trading of shares of
leading companies. He was a trusted broker and pretty well known to the market.
Therefore he used to have almost all the trading information about the leading
companies. He took disadvantage of it and started giving the surety to his clients
about the returns on the various securities held by him in the market. This made
the market mere a puppet of his hands. He used to trade and invest in such a
manner that whenever he wanted to raise the price of the securities he increased
the demand and vice versa, but he was never into losses even when market used to
be a very low level of index. All this gave a rise of doubt in the minds of authorities
and formed a committee to investigate about the trading practice of this broker.
The committee found the following results.
• Mr. Madhav used to be informed in advance about the financial conditions and
operations of the organization. Due to which he used to manipulate the prices.
• Companies used to place shares privately for Mr. Madhav without informing to
the concerned authorities.
All these activities lead to the cancellation of Broker Licence of Mr. Madhav nd he
was penalized too.
