Chapter 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter shows the methods used in the study. It describes the respondents of the

study, the design, and instrument used, the procedure of data gathering and the statistical

treatment of the data. This study determines the effects of Co-Curricular and Extra-Curricular,

the relationship of the variables.

Research Design

Descriptive design will be selected for the analysis of this study. The researchers used

this type of design to describe the variables by statistically analyzing data from the

questionnaires, scores, and databases, and to describe the features of the sample.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents will be selected having one category in mind: the students of Columban

College-Barretto, mainly in Senior High School, who join co-curricular or extra-curricular

activities. The respondents will be chosen by using a purposive sampling or selecting participants

based on specific criteria or characteristics that are relevant to the research question. In this

sampling technique, the researcher selects participants who have the knowledge or experience

relevant to the research question, which can enhance the quality of the data collected

Locale of the Study

The study will be conducted in Columban College Barretto located in Barretto,

Olongapo, Zambales.
Research Instrument

To acquire the data needed in finding out the effects of Co-curricular and Extra-

Curricular on activeness of the respondents, the researchers’ will be designing a close-ended

Questionnaire as an instrument to gather enough and reliable data.

Data Gathering Procedure

The target participants for this study will be specifically senior high school students from

Columban College Barretto who join co-curricular or extra-curricular activities. Data will be

collected through the distribution of closed-ended questionnaires to the respondents. The

questionnaire, developed with the intention of utilizing the responses of the participants, will

serve as the primary data source for this study.

Data Analysis

After the distribution, collection, and completion of distributed questionnaires, the

researchers will tally the gathered data and use frequency count and percentage. To quantify the

data, the researchers will use frequency counts and percentages.

1. Frequency and Percentage Distribution

To interpret the data, the profile of the respondents and the effects of these activities to

them.

The formula used to obtain the percentage rate is as shown below:

Formula: % = (F/N) X 100

P = ------------- x 100
N
Where:

P = Percentage

f = Frequency

100 = Constant Factor

N = Total number of cases or respondents.

2. Average Weighted Mean.

This was used for the quantitative measure of the responses on the items selected from the

scale of 4 to 1, with the highest points for the least and the lowest points for the most. In order

to determine the effects of Co-Curricular and Extra-curricular on students.

The formula for the average weighted mean is as follows:

Formula: : X = (F/N)

Where: X is the weighted mean

F is the frequency

x is the weight of each item

N is the total number of respondents

questionnaire. The data obtained were analysed and presented in tables with their statistical value

arranged in the sequence of the question.

KONKLUSYON AT REKOMENDASYON

KONKLUSYON

In conclusion, the data analysis reveals that co-curricular and extra-curricular activities

have a positive impact on students in various aspects. The majority of respondents were below

17 years old, and they typically spend 1 to 3 hours on these activities. Music and Arts emerged as

the most favorite activity, followed by Clubs and Organizations. The impact of these activities on

physical and mental health varied among respondents, with some finding them helpful and others

perceiving a neutral effect. However, these activities were seen as beneficial for forming

friendships and boosting self-confidence. Additionally, they were considered valuable for

academic development, including motivation, interest, self-expression, and social skills. Overall,

co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are important for students' engagement in school and

their holistic development.

REKOMENDASYON
