The Principles of Scientific Management by Frederick Winslow Taylor
The Knowledge Work Factory Turning The Productivity Paradox into Value for Your
Business by William F. Heitman

-Task Breakdown. Are most people aware that the knowledge work skills above even
exist — let alone breaking them down into their individual micro-tasks?
-Measurement how long each task takes. Do most people track their time? If so, are
they tracking their micro-tasks?
-Experiment to find the one best way. Are people simply using good-enough rules of
thumb or are they using the scientific method to find the optimal approach?
-Train for standardization. Once the optimal approach has been figured out, are
most people being trained in them?

There have been some really great answers here, so I’ll just add a few lesser-known
things:

If you do a lot of regular cardio, it can help to push large amounts of garbage
out of your pores and system. If you do enough, it will actually reduce how much
you stink, even though when you begin this endeavor you will stink right away.
Reducing your intake of meats can reduce your smell.
There are natural prebiotic deodorants, like Tom’s prebiotic line, which work
amazingly well. I prefer them over normal deodorants, and they last longer.
For breath, I’ve developed an incredibly thorough regimen. This may sound like
a lot, but my teeth and gums are in amazing shape now, and my breath never stinks:
First I use a water pik (water flosser) along my entire gum line, in and
out, and then in between my teeth.
Then I brush my teeth (sometimes including baking soda) using a toothpaste
called “Black is White” (which helps to repair teeth), using a Sonicare toothbrush.
I also brush all of my gums, and the roof and floor of my mouth.
Then I use a double-tongue-scraper (you can find them near the toothbrushes
at the store). I scrape the top and sides of my tongue thoroughly, as far back as I
can without gagging. This removes a huge amount of junk which will allow the
following steps to work better.
Then I rinse with water.
Then I slosh and gargle with about 2–3 tablespoons of 3% hydrogen peroxide
for about 1 minute. This really murders everything in your mouth and throat, but
it’s critical to not swallow or especially breath any in, because it will damage
your digestive tract and especially your lungs.
Then I spit and rinse with water.
Then I slosh and gargle with Listerine Complete Zero for at least one
minute.
Then I spit and wipe my mouth off, but I don’t rinse the inside of my mouth
at that point, because I want the Listerine to continue to work, strengthening
teeth and murdering any residual bacteria, as its instructions suggest.
All of this takes about 10-15 minutes. It may seem like a lot, but it makes
an ENORMOUS difference. Since I started doing all of this, my mouth dramatically
changed. It felt like it basically healed, my gums became tighter, and my teeth
became closer together, and everything feels better. My hygienist did a double-take
when she saw the results, and even called the dentist in to see. She said, “Your
mouth is in amazing shape, and you had so little tarter… This never happens!”
The waterpik and the peroxide are the most important things, but the others
make a big difference too. The order is very important as well. If you have
peroxide on your teeth for too long, it can damage the enamel, so you want to use
it intensely, but not leave it in there without rinsing. Also, I used to scrape my
tongue at the end, but you’ll actually end up with bad breath if you do that, since
it will expose the bacterial that got missed, and simply remove the Listerine so it
can’t do its job. All of this has made me a lot more confident around people,
whereas I used to be more worried about my breath. Now I don’t even think about it.
Also, get a bidet for your home. They are absolutely amazing. A million times
better than wiping. They actually thoroughly wash your rear end with high-pressure
water. This has helped me to effectively fight very bad hemorrhoids and
inflammation, when nothing else helped. They take a little practice to use. You
basically put your pelvis at different angles and pinch your cheeks together and
then relax to really wash a wide area. It’s also important to pat yourself dry
afterwards. Some people get bidets that heat the water, etc, but I don’t use those,
and I love it now. I was so hesitant to try it, but I got one for cheap in an
auction, and I wish I had sooner.
I’m an athlete, and I also discovered that it’s very important to get dry
quickly. Also, if you have gear that stinks, the important thing is to get it dry
fast so the bacteria can’t breed by sitting in moisture. Boot dryer inserts, drying
racks, chairs that breath, can all help.
Some examples are:
Smells that come from behind or in the ears, because they can get oily and rancid
and require regular cleaning with alcohol.
The smell that come from an oily scalp which cannot be cleaning properly by regular
shampoo because of long/thick hair. This requires extra strong shampoo and vigors
scrubbing: or a short hair cut.
Often times overweight people cannot reach or account for every fold when bathing,
which needs to be lifted and thoroughly cleaned under, particularly back folds.
These areas will therefore always smell, even right out of the bath. A solution to
this might be a large jacuzzi type bath with powerful jets of water on all sides;
another solution is help with bathing.
There is also a smell that comes from the breath that isn’t due to food or genetics
but bacteria/yeast: sometimes people have cavities that aren’t filled or tongues
and throats that are susceptible to infection. In the later case, one needs to
gargle and brush more often, a few times a day, especially brush the tongue and the
back of tongue — and chew (sugarless) gum in between brushings.
strong underarm odor. I have her using soap with benzoyl peroxide which is used for
acne but kills the same bacteria as the odor making ones.
