INTRODUCTION

In modern era, Employee satisfaction is a vital part behind their contribution in any Organisation.

Employee performance at workplace depends on the positive relationship between the Organisation

and its Employee. And, above positive relationship comes in existence through welfare activities by

Organisation for its Employee and their families.

Employee welfare as “efforts to make life worth living for workers”. The work generally includes

those items of welfare which are over and above what the employees expect as a result of the con-

tract of service from the employers. Welfare includes anything that is done for the comfort and im-

provement of employees and is provided over and above wages. Welfare helps to keep the morale

and motivation of the employees high so as to retain the employees for longer duration. The welfare

measures need not be in monetary term only but in any forms. Employee welfare includes monitor-

ing of working conditions, creation of industrial harmony through infrastructure for health, industri-

al relations & insurance against disease, accident and unemployment for the workers & their fami-

lies. Labor welfare entails all those activities of employees which are directed towards providing the

employees with certain facilities & services in addition to wages & salaries. The purpose of provid-

ing welfare amenities is to bring about development of the whole personality of the worker- his so-

cial, psychological, economic, moral, cultural and intellectual development.

Purpose of Welfare schemes

• Enables workers to have a richer and more satisfying life.

• Raising the standard of living of the workers by indirectly reducing the burden on their pocket.

• Absorb the shocks injected by industrialization & urbanization on workers.


• Promotes a sense of belongingness among the workers and preventing them from resorting to

unhealthy practices like absenteeism, labor turnover, strikes etc..

THE STUDY

The study is about various welfare measures taken up by the organisation for its employees inclu-

sive of statutory schemes. In the above study, we collect data from the employees through various

techniques about the welfare measures, and analyses the data on a five point scale that If employees

are SATISFIED/NOT SATISFIED to what extent.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

To study various welfare measure inclusive of statutory schemes taken by the organisation for its

Employees in different dimensions, Above study comprises of following areas

• Comprehensive study for various welfare measure under statutory and non statutory head.

• Social security measures

• Corporate social responsibility

COMPANY PROFILE

ONGC Represents India's Energy Security Through its Pioneering Efforts.

Maharatna ONGC is the largest crude oil and natural gas Company in India, contributing around

71 per cent to Indian domestic production. Crude oil is the raw material used by downstream com-
panies like IOC, BPCL, HPCL and MRPL (Last two are subsidiaries of ONGC) to produce pe-

troleum products like Petrol, Diesel, Kerosene, Naphtha, and Cooking Gas LPG.

ONGC has a unique distinction of being a company with in-house service capabilities in all areas of

Exploration and Production of oil & gas and related oil-field services. Winner of the Best Employer

award, this public sector enterprise has a dedicated team of around 28,500 professionals who toil

round the clock in challenging locations.

ONGC Videsh Limited, a Miniratna Schedule “A” Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) of the

Government of India under the administrative control of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas,

is the wholly owned subsidiary and overseas arm of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited

(ONGC), the flagship national oil company (NOC) of India. The primary business of ONGC Videsh

is to prospect for oil and gas acreages outside India, including exploration, development and pro-

duction of oil and gas. ONGC Videsh owns Participating Interests in 35 oil and gas assets in 15

countries and produced about 30.3% of oil and 23.7% of oil and natural gas of India’s domestic

production in 2019-20. In terms of reserves and production, ONGC Videsh is the second largest pe-

troleum company of India, next only to its parent ONGC.

ONGC subsidiary Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) is a schedule ‘A’ Mini-

ratna, Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. The

15.0MMTPA (Million Metric Ton per annum) Refinery has got a versatile design with complex

secondary processing units and a high flexibility to process Crudes of various API, delivering a va-

riety of quality products. MRPL, with its parent company Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited

(ONGC), owns and operates ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals Limited (OMPL), a petrochemical

unit capable of producing 0.905 MMTPA of Para Xylene and 0.273 MMTPA of Benzene.

ONGC subsidiary HPCL is a Maharatna CPSE. HPCL has the second largest share of product pipe-

lines in India with a pipeline network of more than 3370 kms for transportation of petroleum prod-
ucts and a vast marketing network consisting of 14 Zonal offices in major cities and 133 Regional

Offices facilitated by a Supply & Distribution infrastructure comprising Terminals, Pipeline net-

works, Aviation Service Stations, LPG Bottling Plants, Inland Relay Depots & Retail Outlets, Lube

and LPG Distributorships. Consistent excellent performance has been made possible by highly mo-

tivated workforce of over 9,500 employees working all over India at its various refining and mar-

keting locations.

STUDY ALREADY DONE IN PAST

Various study was carried out previously like “Analysis of Oil & Gas Sector”, “A STUDY ON

incentive schemes At ONGC” in JODHPUR, “A STUDY OF ORGANISATION AND WORKING

OF O. N. G. C.”

These study are about journey of ONGC growth, organisation concept, structure, economical and

financial strength of company, appraisal system and study of personnel policy etc.

Reports “A Study on Employee Welfare Schemes in Oil & Natural Gas Corporation” is focused on

employee satisfaction at workplace and effectiveness of welfare schemes to retain knowledge in this

competitive world, as Human Resource is an Asset to company

HYPOTHESIS

The Employees are satisfied with the welfare facilities provided by the organisation. Welfare facili-

ties provided by the ONGC are best and, are quite wide ranging being a Public Sector Unit
RATIONALE OF THE STUDY

Manpower I any organisation is an Asset also known as Knowledge capital or knowledge resources,

and knowledge is only meaningful resource today. Today the human resources is very demanding

and they look at jobs to test their own knowledge, organisation are also realising the importance of

people resources in this liberalised, globalise & privatised economy. In order to make them happy,

feel satisfied and retain them, organisation plan retention strategies. To make this possible one has

to determine what the present employee’s perceived satisfaction used towards the employee wel-

fare. The survey on employee satisfaction win helps the organisation to evaluate its return on in-

vestment in the important area like employee welfare measures. Being a public sector companies,

ONGC has various has various welfare schemes are in force that attract youth towards this company

and motivate to choose carrier in largest crude oil exploration and production business.

This study examined organisational commitment towards its Employee and focuses as mediators

between HR practices, Employees and their dependents family members. To know the effectiveness

of various welfare schemes like housing schemes, education loan, medical benefits, insurance and

other amenities.

Level of Employee satisfaction in any organisation denotes the effectiveness HR policies and wel-

fare schemes.

METHODOLOGY

Data Source

Both Primary and Secondary data will be used.


Primary data: Through Questionnaire and survey, it will be based on interview schedule.

Secondary data: Through various databases provided by various magazines, articles, Annual Re-

ports, websites, etc.

Sample size: The sample size will be 100.

Sample Design: Samples of hundred will be belong from both the genders. Samples will be mostly

from the working group.

• IN VIEW OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC SITUATION PERSONAL INTERVIEW IS AVOIDED AT

MANY INSTANCES.

• SAMPLE COLLECTION WILL BE DONE USING SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS, PER-

SONAL INTERACTION AND THROUGH PHONE CALLS ETC..
