ABOUT IRAQ
Iraq is a country located in the Middle East,
bordered by Iran to the east, Kuwait to the
southeast, Saudi Arabia to the south, Jordan to
the southwest, Syria to the west, and Turkey to
the north. It has a rich history that dates back to
ancient Mesopotamia, often considered one of
the cradles of civilization.

• For Men:

• Dishdasha or Kandura: Ankle-length robe, often white.
• Jubba: Similar to the dishdasha, with intricate embroidery for
formal occasions.
• Sherwal and Qabaa: Loose-fitting trousers and tunic,
respectively.

Abaya or Abayeh: Long, flowing gown worn over other clothing.

Headscarves: Varied styles, plain or decorated.

Kurdish Attire:

Traditional Kurdish Attire: Distinctive clothing, including baggy trousers (shalwar) for
men and vibrant dresses with embroidery for women.

Dolma: Grape leaves stuffed with rice and meat.


Kubba: Dough stuffed with spiced minced meat.
Tashreeb: Bread soaked in seasoned broth with
meat.
Masgouf: Grilled carp with olive oil and tamarind.
Quzi: Roasted lamb over rice with nuts.

IRAQS PAST
Iraq's history spans ancient Mesopotamia, a cradle of civilization. It saw empires,
including the Achaemenid, Hellenistic, and Islamic caliphates. The Mongol invasion,
Ottoman rule, and British mandate followed. Independence came in 1932. Saddam
Hussein's regime dominated late 20th-century Iraq, marked by conflicts. The 2003
invasion led to Saddam's ousting, but Iraq faced challenges, including insurgency
and the rise of ISIS. Post-2003, efforts toward stability and rebuilding continue. The
nation has a rich history, with diverse influences shaping its past.
