The Beginning.
The Bible speaks of the creation of humanity as a – “direct act of God.”
● God Created mankind.
o Gen 2:7 (NLT) Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the
ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man
became a living person.
● We were created in God’s image
o Gen 1:27 (NLT) So God created human beings in His own image. In the
image of God He created them; male and female.
● God was pleased with what He created.
o Gen 1:31 (NLT) Then God looked over all He had made, and He saw that it
was very good!
Who am I.
The bible clearly teaches that we are His children and as His sons and daughters we have
the freedom to be ourselves. Psalms 139 tell us that we weren’t an accident, a mishap, or
an after-thought, but that He purposefully and personally designed us. We are unique, a
one-of-a-kind masterpiece and God wants us to celebrate our uniqueness. Not hide it
behind a mask, a facade, or pretence. He wants us to be the authentic person He created.
● Psalms 139:13-18 (TPT) You formed my innermost being, shaping my delicate
inside and my intricate outside, and wove them all together in my mother’s womb.
14
I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex! Everything you do is
marvellously breathtaking. It simply amazes me to think about it! How thoroughly
you know me, Lord! 15 You even formed every bone in my body when you created
me in the secret place; carefully, skilfully you shaped me from nothing to something.
16
You saw who you created me to be before I became me! Before I’d ever seen the
light of day, the number of days you planned for me were already recorded in your
book. 17-18 Every single moment you are thinking of me! How precious and wonderful
to consider that you cherish me constantly in your every thought! O God, your
desires toward me are more than the grains of sand on every shore! When I awake
each morning, you’re still with me.
How does God see me?
As a result of (Adam’s) sin, our relationship with our Heavenly Father was broken and
distorted, but through our faith in Jesus (the shedding of His blood, His death and
resurrection), the Father see us as:
● His children and heirs.
o John 1:12 (NLT) But to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the
right to become children of God.
o Gal 4:7 (NLT) Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since
you are his child, God has made you His heir.
● Just as if we had never sinned.
o Col 1:22 (NLT) Now He has reconciled you to Himself through the death of
Christ in His physical body. As a result, He has brought you into His own
presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before Him without a
single fault.
● Chosen and accepted
o 1 Pet 2:9 (NLT) But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You
are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you
can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness
into his wonderful light.
o Rom 5:17 (CEV) Death ruled like a king because Adam had sinned. But that
cannot compare with what Jesus Christ has done. God has been so kind to us,
and He has accepted us because of Jesus. And so we will live and rule like
kings.
3. In your own words, explain Eph 2:19 - Now, therefore, you are no longer
strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of
the household of God
