Pre- natal Development:

 Upon fertilization from ovum (gestation period 266 days (period of 11days)
 1st phase (2wks.) Prenatal Growth (germinal period) to Cell Division to Growing cell
 Embryonic period begins at (8wks)
 structure and organs are formed
 Fetal and period begins (12weeks)
 first bone cell developed
 growth continues till birth
 28 wks. after conception, the body is form and it evolving
ex. arm and legs buds but arm are developing at a greater rate than legs.

1month.
 details of head/ eyes/ ears/ mouth and brain are seen faintly.
 the brain already shows primitive specialization
 primitive heart, umbilical cord and organ such as liver, kidney and stomach are progressively
developing.
 Primitive embryo is .25 to .5 inches long (size of a pea)
 in 1mos. time the embryo is 10, 000 larger than the fertilized egg.

2nd Month
 Embryo and familial features such as face/ eyes/ ears/ nose/ lips/ tongue/ muscle and skin
covering exist.
 Arm/ fingers/ thumb/ legs/ knees/ ankle and toes are present.
 all organs of the body are formed
 the brain send impulses, muscle and nerves are working together.
 the heart beating regularly and steady
 endocrine is all functioning and so are the stomach and liver.
 isolated reflex are elicited

3rd Month
 this period marked refinement of facial and extremities
 fetus has become active/ kick/ turn/ close finger/ moves thumb opposition/ open its mouth/
although eyelids is still closed.
 palate and hips are formed and fused.
 sexual differentiation is beginning.

4th Month
 period in which the lower body part developed rapidly.
 fetus weight 4 ounces/ 6 inches long.
 breathing pattern are irregular
 muscle and reflexive response in which mother can now feel “quickening movement.”
5th Months
 continuous refinement/ spontaneous activity.
 fetal movement- marked perceived by the mother.
 fetus sleeps and wakes.
 How ever the respiratory system is still immature for life outside the uterus.

6th Months
 Eyelids of fetus open
capable of movement (lateral to Medial)
 taste buds developed
 eye slashed and brows are features
 fetus developed marked grasp reflex
 fetus at 1.5pound and its 12 to 14 inches long
 breathing pattern are irregular
1st hour outside mother womb.

7th Months
 Cerebral hemisphere covers almost all the brain.
= the organisms that makes specialized responses.
 If born at seven the child can survive in a sheltered environment.

8th months & 9th months

 are period of refinement of function
 immune system of fetus begins in the intrauterine environment.
 reflex development begins in the intrauterine environment.
 Reflex behavior are the building blocks of
sensorimotor behaviors.
= foundation of future sensorimotor pattern
= CNS develops/ reflexes, reactions are integrated
= adaptive for appropriate sensorimotor behavior and skills are emerge
 Therefore, the absence or delay of reflexive integration may indicate developmental delay or
dysfunctions.
