Tata Digital is undergoing significant changes, marked by a series of exits over the past 20 months.

The
company's reliance on Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for IT services has added to the complexity of its
transformation. Recent departures include Gunjan Ghai, the chief business officer for insurance, and
Rajiv Subramanium, the head of travel. The clash between IT and startup cultures within Tata Digital is
impacting team dynamics, as reported by current and former employees. This clash highlights the
company's struggle to balance its aspirations of operating like a startup while maintaining the workings
of an IT company.

Over the past 20 months, Tata Digital has experienced a significant number of high-profile departures,
notably after its leader, Kalyan Krishnamurthy, stepped down in January 2023. These exits have been
attributed to challenges related to the launch of Tata Neu, which has failed to meet expectations. Key
executives like Sauvik Banerjjee and Sharath Bulusu left shortly after building Tata Neu in March 2022. In
total, at least eight top-level executives have left Tata Digital in the last 18 months. Despite these
setbacks, Tata Digital remains committed to diversifying its business into new ventures.

Tata Digital embarked on a crucial project to unify the Tata Group's consumer-facing brands and establish
a digital identity, marking the first independent project under group chairman N Chandrasekaran. To
execute this project, Tata Group opted for a familiar approach, entrusting Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)
with the task, a method previously successful in building the tech infrastructure of Cliq and Tata
Payments. The project was led by TCS veteran Pal, who had previously overseen significant
responsibilities at TCS, including retail and consumer packaged goods, and was instrumental in
generating a significant portion of TCS's revenues
