As stated in the approved study plan.
This course uses authentic scientific English texts as reading material for the purpose of teaching the
characteristics of this discourse genre, particularly the syntactic structures, and basic terminology in
biology, chemistry, mathematics, health sciences, etc. It will teach how to write lab reports, science
reviews and critiques, and scientific research proposals.

A- Aims:
The main objective of this course is to familiarize students with scientific and technological language
by studying authentic texts and structures and analyzing the linguistic features of such texts. More
emphasis will be given to grammatical structures and vocabulary used for scientific and technological
purposes.

A- Attendance policies:
There will be synchronous and asynchronous lectures. The synchronous lecturing will be held on
Sun, Tues, and Thurs, class time, using Microsoft Teams whereas the asynchronous meetings will be
held using Moodle. You are expected to take part in all the synchronous lectures and keep track of the

asynchronous meetings.
B- Absences from exams and submitting assignments on time:
The midterm and the final exam can be made up only with an official excuse. Assignments should be
submitted online using the Moodle platform before the assigned deadline. Overdue assignments will
not be accepted.

Plagiarism (Copy & Paste, Not Including Sources, Not Citing Sources Correctly, Incorrectly
Paraphrasing) will not be tolerated. Any instance of plagiarism will result in 0 grade for that
assignment.

The project and the tasks will be evaluated based on a certain rubric that will be shown to students.
