XIII. Electrodes for Mild Steel shall confirm to IS 814 (Latest Revision).

XIV. Post welding, the welded area shall be finished as follows:


a. Grinding to remove burrs, beads, splatter
b. Apply 1 coat of zinc chromate primer over cleaned surface.
c. Apply 2 coats of zinc rich paint/ aluminium paint.

8.4 Galvanization:

All angles, channel and other structural members of watch tower shall be hot dip galvanized with coating
thickness of 85 microns for protection against corrosion. Pipes shall be standard GI type. Galvanization shall
conform to IS-2629, 4759 & 4736 as applicable. Galvanization shall be measured with elcometer and Vendor
shall submit the report, from NABL accredited laboratory, Test to determine corrosion performance of
Structures as per the applicable IS/ASTM, as and when required.

Chequered plate, gusset plates, flats, MS bars shall be in normal condition and surface finish shall be as per
post welding conditions at clause 8.3 above.

8.5 Quality Requirements:

Vendor to submit the MQP and FQP of the watch tower for approval of BHEL/End Customer. The MQP and
FQP to essentially take care of all the criteria as listed in the technical requirements of this specification.

8.6 Test reports

Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) Call should accompany the following reports:

1. Raw Material test certificates

2. Internal inspection report (Dimensional + galvanization thickness) as per instruction specified in


approved MQP and Drawing.
3. Photographs of the offered lot.

BHEL- EDN will go through the reports and depute personnel for PSI. PSI

to be by BHEL/TPI/End Customer.

9.0. Packing instructions

The Watch Tower components shall be packed in bundles with steel straps with corner wedges of
plastic/fibre/rubber material to prevent damage to surface during handling. Adequate no. of steel straps shall
be provided depending upon the length of the components.
