Research question & hypothesis

What are the rules, both environmental and technical when

retrofitting Esvagt Innovator - and will Esvagt Innovator still be able
to go on the same voyages as before both on methanol and diesel
after the conversion to methanol?

By converting Esvagt Innovator from diesel to dual-fuel methanol it

is possible to go on the same voyages as before. It will also be
possible to complete the voyages only using diesel.
Fuel consumption

Analyzing 14 voyages (101 days)

55,6 m^3 diesel was the maximum

This is equivalent to 120 m^3 methanol

Additional fuel-consumption analysis

33 extra trips were analyzed (47 in total which is all voyages in 2022)

No voyages consumed

More than 55,6 m^3

The second largest was 54,1

@MCR for 8:

The service tanks must have a capacity of at

least 32,12 m^3
New design
Methanol: 128,25 m^3

Diesel: 58 m^3

(pilot fuel = 12,8 m^3)

Previous design
Max 5% oxygen content in the inert gas. (8% in tanks)

UJ: how much do we need?

Answer: 142 m^2 at bunkering (M.T.1+M.T.2+M.O.1)

At sea: enough to fill the tanks as the generators consume fuel95% purity means that 95 % is nitrogen and the remaining 5% is ambient atmosphere.

This is @MCR 32,124 m^3/hr divided by 8 hr = 4,01 m^3/hr

190 liter nitrogen buffer tanks are installed

Bunkering methanol

It is possible in Esbjerg

Malik Energy was asked about the specific amount

Bigger possibility in the upcoming years

From 2025 eMethanol using carbon Capture

Bunkering facilities from shore to ship will be built

Conclusion

Consumption of 120 m^3 methanol - capacity of 128 m^3

Capacity of 58 m^3 diesel. Only 12,8m^3 are consumed as pilot fuel

This means that the ship can still go on the same voyages as before

Dual fuel methanol retrofit - ComAP and Caterpillar

Cofferdams must be established

Bunkering the required quantity is possible on Esbjerg

Tests on a parent engine must be carried out - certificates

Research after hand-in
Opportunity for similar vessels using same method

The same engine model

Existing equipment must be examined

The fuel logs must be analyzed

The tank capacity must be analyzed

Questions?
Environmental

Conversion must be tested on a parent engine

EIAPP & IAPP certificate must be renewed
