Basic connections Before connecting ‘© Tum off the power of all components before making conn- nections. * Connect the power cord fast © Make sure that you connect the white pin-plugs tothe lft (L- white) terminals and the red pin-plugs othe right F-red) ter- mninals. © Connect everything securely. Speaker connection Before connecting © Check the impedance of your speakers. When using one pair of speakers: Connect speakers wit an impedance of 4 to 16 ohms ‘When using two pairs of speakers at the same ti Connect speakers with an impedance of 8 to 16 ohms. ‘The amplifiers red speaker terminals are the ® (positive) terminals and the black terminals are the © (negative) termi- nals. ‘©The @ sido ofthe speaker cable is marked to makeitdistin- {ulshable from the © side ofthe cable. For CD playback: Press the CD button. For auxiliary source playback: ross the AUX button. For playback ofa cassette deck or DATdeckconnected to the TAPE 1, 2 or 3 terminals: Press the TAPE 1, 20 $ button depending on where the ‘component is connected. For digital source playback (AM-87 model only): Press the DIGITAL (OPTICAL), DIGITAL 2or DIGITAL button depending on which digi terminal the component is connected to. 4, Play beck the lected source. 5 Adlustthe playback volume with the VOLUME control ‘After playback is finished: ‘ter turing the velume down tum the power off by pressing the POWER button. Sampling frequency indicators (AM-67 model only) ‘The sampling frequency indicators light up during digital source playback to indicate the source's sampling tre- ‘quency. ‘The sampling frequency isan important frequency necess- ary for digital to analog signal conversion during playback. ‘The standard sampling frequencies are 48kHz, 44.1kHz ‘and 3okH2. +The 44kitz Indicator will ight up during 44.1kHz samp- ling frequency source playback. Operation details ‘SPEAKERS DIRECT OPERATION PHONES TREBLE BASS MODE muTiNG BALANCE DIRECT OPERATION switch ‘The DIRECT OPERATION svitch is used to help Improve sound quay by selecting the shortest uit rout through the amplifier thatthe playback signal has to travel When set to SOURCE: ‘The subsonic filter, tone control circuit and balance contro cit- cuits are by-passed. When set to OFF (SUBSONIC): “The playback signal is routed through the subsonic fier, tone ‘control ercult and balance control circuits During record playback ths postion can be used to reduce ultra low frequency noise, rumble, hum etc. (Indicated by woofer vi- bration during playback). Ne ‘©The subsonic fiter removes low frequency signals (18Hz or lower) that are present in the playback signals. Treble and bass tone adjustment 4 Sel tte DIRECT OPERATION switch to OFF (SUB- SONIC). Use the BASS and TREBLE controls as follows: Bass adjustment To increase the level Tum the BASS control toward + 10. To decrease the lev ‘Tum the BASS control toward - 10. To defeat the control: Set the contol to 0. Treble adjustment To increase the level: Tum the TREBLE control toward + 10 To decrease the level: Turn the TREBLE control toward - 10. To defeat the control Set the contralto 0. Left/right channel volume balance ad- justment Set the DIRECT OPERATION switch to OFF (SUB- SONIC). Use the BALANCE control as follows: ‘To decrease the right channel volume: Turn the BALANCE control to the LEFT. To increase the left channel volum ‘Tum the BALANCE control to the RIGHT. 10 Listening with headphones 1 Setthe SPEAKERS suitch to OFF =. 2, Connect the headphones tothe PHONES jack. 4, Aaust the volume with the VOLUME control Caution: ‘© Donotlisten forlong periods of time athigh volume levels es this may damage your hearing. ‘© When connecting a pai otheadphones during playback, turn the volume down fist. Volume mute “The mating system can be used to instanty reduc playback volume. There are two muting systems to choose trom: partial ‘ute, engaged with the ampliir’s MUTING (-20dB) button and full mute, engaged with the remote control's MUTING button. Duringpartial mute, volume willbereduced by 2048. During ful mute fe volume wil be cut completely. ‘To mute the volume: It Press the amplifier’s MUTING button to the ON = posi- tion, or press the remote control's MUTING button, ‘To resume the normal volume level I Press the amplifier or remote control's MUTING button again. Note: ‘© When the full mute mode Is engaged with the remote con- trols MUTING button, the amplifiers FULL MUTE indicator wil ight. Stereo/monaural sound selection 1 Sehthe DIRECT OPERATION switch to OFF (SUB- SONIC). D. Press the MODE button a follows: For monaural selection: Press the MODE button fo the MONO = position, For stereo selection: Press the MODE button to the STEREO = position. Protection circuit ‘This ampitier includes abultn protection crcuitthatis ac~ tivated to protect the speakers from noise damage when the ampiter’s power is turned on. The protection circuit also functions during playback to pro- tect the speakers rom overloading and to protect the ck- cuits from damage. Wren the protection creut is engaged, the output signal wil be cut automaticaly. ‘Should the sound be cut during playback: 4 Tum the ample off 12. Recording Before proceeding Tum on the power of all components Musing a DAT deck for recording, setitfor analog recording. ‘| When connecting components for tape dubbing: ‘The TAPE 1 and 2 terminals ae for connection ofthe source eck oF recording deck. ‘The TAPE 3 terminals are for connection of the recording deck only 4, Stet the recording source with the REC SELECTOR ‘witch as follows: For broadcast recording: Set to TUNER. For record dise recording: ‘Set to PHONO. For CD recording: ‘Setto CD. For digital source recording (AN-67 model only): Seto DIGITAL 1/213 and press the DIGITAL 1(OPTICAL), DIGITAL 2 or DIGITAL 3 input selector button, depending ‘on which digital terminal the source component is con nected to. For tape dubbing: Setto TAPE COPY 1 -> 2/8 when recording romacassette deck or DAT deck connected tothe TAPE: terminals, For tape dubbing: ‘Setto TAPE COPY 2 1/3 when recording fromacassette deck or DAT deck connected to the TAPE 2 terminals. 1. Aforalusting the recording levelofthe cassette deck for DAT deck, start recording. After recording Is finished: ‘Setthe REC SELECTOR switch to OFF and tum off the power. Monitoring the recording ‘To monitor the sound ofthe source being recorded, select the source withthe input selector buttons. Ifthe tape deck you are using to record on has 3 heads, you can ‘monitor the actual sound that is being recorded by pressing the inputselector button that corresponds othe recording deckyou wish to monitor. Listening to another source during recording IHyou wish to listen to another source during recording, simply selectthat source with the input selector buttons. Recording will ‘ot be interrupted.
