Position Paper in English: School

Uniforms should no longer be required

School Uniforms should no longer be required. We should let students freely dress
however they want, whenever they want. For some people, dressing up in a certain
way gives them a sense of freedom and is an outlet for their creative minds. It is
important that we should see to this topic as it is, in my opinion, a rather important
one. Uniforms should no longer be allowed because it restricts the students’
freedom of expression. It sets a bad example of promoting conformity instead of
individuality. Wearing a uniform does not make you special in any way, it does not
make you academically bright, it does not improve one’s behavioral and social
outcomes nor does it lessen discrimination of any sort, so why not dress however
you want and that you are comfortable in.

A con to this is that it is a burden to parents’ who cannot afford another set of
clothes for their child, should the institute continue to push the wear of uniform
then they must take responsibility and provide uniforms for their students. As said
in The Bulletin “Rules enforcing school uniforms could possibly be a civil rights
violation, such as the rights of free speech, right to privacy and freedom of
religion. Schools must have an opt-out provision to make a school uniform policy
legal because very child has the right to a public education unconditioned upon
complying with a uniform policy.” Uniforms does not make a student safe from
any ridicule as students always find ways to tease and bully others, despite of what
they’re wearing. It creates divisions between other schools, making students prone
to harm from rivalry of other institutions.
Uniforms should no longer be a requirement because students should be able to
unleash their expressiveness and individuality, not conform to one specific idea.
