MARKET SURVEY FOR NEW ACADEMIC

PROGRAMME | MASTER OF
INFECTIOUS DISEASES
Market Survey Information Sheet

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia is planning to develop a new
postgraduate programme: Master of Infectious Diseases. You are cordially invited to participate in
this market survey which will help us to assess the market demand in this field and to improve the
programme structure and content.

This Master program is built on the model of European Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Degree
(EMJMD) program. The curriculum is set up based on the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions
of Higher Learning (ASAIHL) and adapted to Asia and Europe/Asia cooperation. The Master
curriculum will associate four partner universities; Asian partners - University Gadjah Mada
(Indonesia), Universiti Putra Malaysia (Malaysia), Mahidol University (Thailand), and European
partner - University of Montpellier (France).

Duration: 2 years (full time)
Medium of Instruction: English
Method of Teaching: Online teaching and learning

Method of Assessment:

Exam modalities are determined by the heads (two persons per unit) of the teaching units. Exams are
run according to the selected modality. Scores are given by the lecturers and transferred by the heads
of the teaching unit to the Steering Committee.

Scores are endorsed by the steering committee with the statement pass or fail and transmitted to each
graduate school or equivalent for official registration and calculation of level according to the local
rules.

Award: Maximum of 2 separate degrees (not a joint degree)

Admission Requirements:

1. Any Bachelor’s degree in Health related programmes (e.g. Medicine, and Biomedical Sciences),
OR

2. Bachelor's degree in related field with at least CGPA of 3.0, OR

3. Equivalent qualification that has been approved by Senate

Student Recruitment:

Students will be selected and recruited according to a four-step procedure agreed upon by all partners.
This procedure is clearly mentioned in Article V.2. of the MoA (Memorandum of Agreement).

Step 1: The applicant must apply to one of the universities following local rules
Step 2: Application is examined by the educational team of the university where the application was
filed. Eligible applicants will be invited for an interview with the educational team

Step 3: Each educational team shall submit a short list of successfully interviewed candidates to the
other universities with their recommendation through the Steering Committee. The Steering
Committee or a designated sub-committee will decide on the final acceptance of each application.
This meeting may be organized through video conference

Step 4: Admitted students will be recorded in all universities but will register to maximum two
universities

Fees and Funding:


USD 500/semester/student (payable to the university where students registered)

USD 100/hour (based on the numbers of hours delivered in both core and elective program)

Each student will receive a scholarship of USD 6000/year, in which all scholarships will be received
and managed by ASAIHL
