Conference Overview & Target Audience


The Children's Environmental Health Symposium will provide important information about environmental
impacts on children’s health. Physicians, mid-level providers, registered nurses, social workers, public health
practitioners, community health workers, policy makers, academics, and others in the community will be
informed about the critical links between the environment and health, which is an essential step towards
improving health outcomes.

Plenary morning sessions will focus on childhood lead poisoning, emerging environmental health issues, and
the benefit of telehealth and virtual health services on improving health outcomes. Afternoon sessions are
planned for clinical and public health tracks.

Objectives
Following the conference, the participant will be able to:
• Recognize the continuing threat of lead poisoning to children, regardless of socioeconomic level.
• Identify several emerging environmental threats to children's health.
• Identify triggers to environmental illnesses, such as asthma, and preventive methods.

shuttle service to and from the Love Field Airport.

Health Sciences Center El Paso, Southwest Center for Pediatric Environmental Health, United States
Environmental Protection Agency, and West Texas Regional Poison Center.

unforeseen or extenuating circumstances. In an effort to conserve resources, no printed materials will be
available. Attendees at the conference will receive a thumb drive with conference materials to download or
print. Conference dress is casual and each attendee is encouraged to bring a sweater or jacket for comfort
