Covid-19: The beginning

The Covid pandemic has taken a toll on all of mankind, testing our limits, and
putting us in the most extreme situations. During this period, some of our relatives,
colleagues and friends have lost their lives while a other loved ones have managed
to survive. In the beginning of this pandemic, people were very afraid of what this
virus contains of and what it could do to us and our bodies, but as more and more
prevention methods are created and now it has become as common and is treated
as a cold and none of this could have happened without the discovery of vaccines.
Now that we have already talked about vaccines let me tell you the origin of
Vaccinations.

History: Origin of Vaccination

Vaccination, created by Edward Jenner in the west in 1796 is a bacteria or
chemical containing of the disease-causing organism or the dead or weakened form
of that disease they also include of other ingredients so that the vaccine is safe and
effective, these latter ingredients are included in most vaccines and have been used
for decades in billions of doses of vaccines. Vaccinations are taken as a method of
prevention or antigen without inserting the whole disease in order to create
antibodies and make the body immune to that/those disease/s. Now that I have told
you about the origin and how vaccines were made let me tell you about the covid
vaccination.

The Covid Vaccination: Development in time

There are now many vaccines for the Corona Virus around the world.
Sinopharm, Pfizer, Sputnik V, Moderna are just some of the vaccines the UAE
offers the citizens and residents free of charge. Different vaccines work in different
ways to offer protection and prevention from the disease, the body is left with a
supply of “memory” T and B lymphocytes that will remember how to fight the
virus in the future. Typically, it takes our body 2-3 weeks after taking the
vaccination for the body to develop these T and B lymphocytes. Therefore, it is
possible that a person could be infected with the virus that causes COVID just after
the vaccination and get sick or unwell because the vaccine didn’t have enough time
to provide protection. Covid vaccines include of ingredients such as proteins/pieces
of the virus that causes COVID-19. These virus pieces are called spike protein. The
vaccine also contains another ingredient called an adjuvant that helps the immune
system respond to the spike protein if it ever enters our body in the future thus our
body develops antibodies of COVID.

Advantages of the Covid Vaccine: Going to the Future

-Amongst People who have taken the covid vaccination their level of protection
against the infection from the primary series decreases over time but can be further
decreased by taking a booster dose also.

-It is safe for pregnant and breast-feeding women.

-It is free for all citizens and residents in the UAE and India.

Disadvantages of the Covid Vaccine: Back to the past

-After/Side effects such as fever, headaches, redness where the shot was given,
pain, swelling, tiredness etc.

-But it is normal to get side effects because our immune system is instructing our
body to react in certain ways: it increases blood flow so more immune cells
circulate, it also raises your body temperature in order to kill the virus.

-Long term side effects include getting covid right before or after the vaccination
because the body has not had enough time to provide protection.

Political, Economic and Social Factors: The new generation

-The development of the COVID-19 vaccines provides a path to end this
pandemic.

-However, Vaccination rates have been insufficient to prevent the spread of this
deadly disease.

-Why are these vaccination rates low? The vaccination rates have been low
because many people have chosen not to be vaccinated as their political views.
-It is also socially connected because now having the vaccine is common but
before it was a symbol of luxury.

-Even economically because if you have the COVID vaccine then you can travel to
different countries without taking the COVID-19 test which lead to economic
benefits.

Fairness and Development: Coming to our MYP global context

-how is covid vaccine connected to fairness you may wonder they are connected
because the covid vaccine is available to everyone and is free in some countries
and in others it is cheap.

-It is also connected to development because there are new vaccines being
developed almost every day.

-Nearly all ingredients in the covid vaccines are also commonly used ingredients in
food such as- fats, sugars and salts.

-Getting a COVID vaccine is safer and more dependable way to build immunity
and antibodies than getting sick with COVID.

-Covid 19 vaccines do not create or cause variants of the virus that causes covid.
Instead covid vaccines prevent new variants from emerging.

-Covid vaccines cannot alter your DNA.

-Getting the Covid vaccine can’t make you sick with covid because none of the
authorized vaccines contain the live virus that causes the virus.
