Foreword

This British Standard, prepared under the authority of the Sanitary Appliances
Industry Standards Committee, has been metricated in accordance with the
metrication programme of the British Standards Institution. The
recommendations for the co-ordination of dimensions in building as laid down in:
BS 2900, Recommendations for the co-ordination of dimensions in building.
Glossary of terms.
BS 4011, Recommendations for the co-ordination of dimensions in building. Basic
sizes for building components and assemblies.
are embodied where appropriate in the standard.
The metric values are given in SI units; for further information reference should
be made to BS 3763, “The International System of units (SI)”, and PD 5686, “The
use of SI units”.
NOTE Reference should also be made to BS 1010-2, BS 1184, BS 5412, BS 5413 and BS 3943.
A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a
contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application.

Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity

from legal obligations.

BSI Certification Trade Mark

The Kitemark
The British Standards Institution is the owner of a registered certification trade mark. It is usually
associated with the words “approved to British Standard” as shown below, the number of the relevant
British Standard being added. This mark may be used only by those licensed under the certification
mark scheme operated by BSI. The presence of this mark on or in relation to a product is an assurance
that the goods have been produced under a system of supervision, control and testing, operated during
manufacture and including periodical inspection of the manufacture’s works in accordance with the
certification mark scheme of BSI designed to ensure compliance with a British Standard.
