Is a written account of the series of events

that make up a person’s life.
Is a detailed description of a person’s life.

The text consists of three parts:
Orientation : to give the reader the background
information of the person

Series of events : to present a series of events in

chronological order

Reorientation : to conclude the text with a comment on

the contribution this person has made, evaluation of the
person’s achievement.

Linguistic features of biography text:

Simple Past Tense

Example: He was born on August 17, in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Time sequence
Example: His parents were divorced when he was three years old.

Focus on specific participant

Example: Abraham Lincoln was born in 1809 in Kentucky (USA). He worked
on the farm of his father.

Use action verb

Example: He did different types of jobs before he settled as a highly successful lawyer.

Albert Einstein was born near the end of the 1800s in Ulf,
Germany. He graduated from the University of Zurich in
Switzerland at age 26. That was also when he did his
famous work in physics. Fourteen years later he won the
Nobel Prize for Physics.

For the next ten years he lived in Germany and travelled

a lot to talk to other scientists. Then in the early 1930s he
had to leave Germany because of Hitler and the Nazi
party. He moved to the United States. From that time
until his death he lived in Princeton, New Jersey. He died
at the age of 74.
 Make a mini research to find out who he is.
