Car vs. Pedestrian Accident

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an accident where a pedestrian was hit. The Polk County
Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received calls reporting the accident shortly before 8:00 p.m. on
February 27, 2024. The accident was reported to be in the 4800 block of NE 14th Street, just south of I-80, in the
northbound lanes.

Deputies arrived on the scene and located an unconscious adult male in the roadway. The driver of the vehicle
that had struck the victim remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The victim was
transported to an area hospital and remains in critical condition.

Preliminary investigations indicate the victim was crossing the northbound lanes and in the middle of the
roadway when he was struck by the vehicle. The victim was wearing all black and the roadway was not well-lit.
The area of NE 14th Street where the accident occurred does not have sidewalks or crosswalks.

No charges have been filed. The investigation into this accident is ongoing and no other information is available
at this time. Updates will be sent out as they become available for release.
