the BoE’s new digital money paper suggested a ‘Britcoin’ was
increasingly likely. Other CBDC initiatives included a BIS-driven
innovation hub featuring the Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and
Icelandic central banks, a global CBDC solutions challenge
launched by Singapore’s MAS, the IMF, World Bank et al, and the
Russian central bank’s digital ruble pilot. Last but not least, El
Salvador became the first country to adopt bitcoin as legal tender.
