- Clouds
- Wind

Content/Facts
- A meteorologist is someone who predicts the weather.
- They create a weather forecast (prediction of what will happen) on the news.
Introduction/Activating/Launch Strategies
● Hi first grade! Today we are going to be learning about how we know what the weather
is going to be like!
● Has anyone ever watched the news?
● Has anyone seen a person on the news predict the weather?
● Turn and talk to a partner about that time and what they said.
● A person who predicts the weather is called a meteorologist.
● A meteorologist creates a weather forecast so we know what the weather will be like
that day.
● I am going to read this story to you all to introduce meteorology to you.

Development/Teaching Approaches
● Now, I am going to play this short video for you guys about what being a meteorologist
means.
● How can we use the skills we learned throughout our weather unit to predict the
weather? Turn and talk to a partner.
○ A discussion will take place about this.
● Using all the skills we learned this week about how the weather works and what we
learned today about meteorologists, I would like you to write about it.
● At the top of the paper I handed out, write your name and number.
● The prompt ays “If I were a meteorologist, I would…” and you guys are going to write
all about it.
● Together, we are going to brainstorm different things to write about on the board.
● Now, you are going to write your own response. If you do not know how to spell a
word, try your best. But use all the grammar skills we have been learning about.
● Make sure you use a few examples of what a meteorologist does from what we talked
about, the video, or the book.
● Once you are done, hand it in on the blue chair for it to be graded.
● As a class, we are going to come up with what the weather will be like tomorrow.
● The teacher will run a class discussion about this.
○ Looking at the clouds
○ Precipitation
○ Sunshine
○ Wind (if recess was outside)

Reflective Response:
Report of Student Learning Target/Objectives Proficiency Levels
Based on student responses, only 12.5% of students did not understand the writing
process or did not understand meteorology. One of these students was absent for most of the
unit so this was an inaccurate assessment for him. The other student is currently being tested
for special education. This shows me that only these two students need remediation on weather
topics. The students that did 1-3 correct responses will benefit from the review session before
the summative test.
I should have taken out a small group for the title one students while the other students
were independently writing. Although most of the title students understood and created a great
writing piece, some did not. Next time I will take out a small group while independent work is
happening.
