Lesson Idea
☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.
☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.
☐ Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.
changes they notice from their observation. Students should create a table or graph, that
should include information of their local weather data. Students will notice the change in
weather throughout the day, or from day to day based on the data they collect and/or
analyze. Students should notice patterns such as it is cooler in the morning, warmer during
the day, and cooler at night. Once all the data is collected, students will work in a group of
three to create a book. Students will use any basic productivity tools. This task will take a
week. Students will record data from a week and then will have to input it into a table or
graph. In order to collect this data students and teacher will need to go outside during recess
to observe the weather.
Managing engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that gets students
actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts?
Students will be able to use this eBook by listening to a story on the different types of
weather. Students will be given a table to track their data. Students will view the weather
daily and will notice the change throughout the day. Students should be able to obtain
weather data. Students should evaluate weather data. Students should be able to
communicate weather data.
This lesson will be able to support all students by allowing them to view, listen, and collect
data. Students will engage by collecting data to keep track of the weather day by day.
Students will use an audiobook to listen to the story.
After designing this lesson plan, these activities should help students obtain, evaluate, and
communicate the different types of weather. Students should be able to collect data and
using a table or graph to compare their predictions.
