Introduction
A consulting firm was hired to perform a survey of people who are living in New York
City. The data sets contain the survey entries for 445 randomly selected people, and the data set
was completed monthly for six months. The statistical finding helps the government personnel of
New York City in learning about the opinions of people regarding general attitude, education and
marital status.
The first set of data is compiled, which is based on the variables 1-5, with a random
sample of 445 people in New York City. The data set is related to the opinion of the five
boroughs. They can rate each borough with 1 referring to dislike very much and 5 referring to
like very much. The point estimate for Manhattan (Variable 1) is estimated as 3.23 and has a
standard deviation of 0.94. The 95% confidence interval has a value of 3.23+/- of 0.08. The
upper boundary has a value of 3.32, while the lower boundary has a value of 3.15. The result
indicates that there exists a 95 percent of chance that the true simple mean is within a range of
Similarly, the point estimate for Brooklyn (Variable 2) is estimated as 4.44 and has a
standard deviation of 1.12. The 95% confidence interval has a value of 4.44+/- of 0.10. The
upper boundary has a value of 4.55, while the lower boundary has a value of 4.34. The result
indicates that there exists a 95 percent of chance that the true simple mean is within a range of
4.55 and 4.32. Also, the boundaries are higher than Manhattan’s which shows that they have a
higher positive attitude. Furthermore, the point estimate for Queens (Variable 3) is estimated as
3
2.28 and has a standard deviation of 1.13. The 95% confidence interval has a value of 2.28+/- of
0.10. The upper boundary has a value of 2.38, while the lower boundary has a value of 2.17. The
result indicates that there exists a 95 percent of chance that the true simple mean is within a
range of 2.38 and 2.17. Also, the boundaries are quite lower than Manhattan’s and Brooklyn
which shows that they have a higher negative attitude than others (Statistics, 2022).
The point estimate for the Bronx (Variable 4) is estimated as 2.41 and has a standard
deviation of 1.36. The 95% confidence interval has a value of 2.41+/- of 0.13. The upper
boundary has a value of 2.54, while the lower boundary has a value of 2.28. The result indicates
that there exists a 95 percent of chance that the true simple mean is within a range of 2.54 and
2.28. Also, the variable has the largest margin of error of 0.13. The point estimate for Staten
Island (Variable 5) is estimated as 4.29 and has a standard deviation of 1.09. The 95%
confidence interval has a value of 4.29+/- of 0.10. The upper boundary has a value of 4.39, while
the lower boundary has a value of 4.19. It is seen that it is the second highest in terms of point of
estimate.
People in the survey are also asked about their highest level of education. The survey has
six options, which begin with 1 (did not complete the high school), 2 (high school with degree),
3 (students with associate degree), 4 (Bachelor’s degree), and 5 & 6 refers to Master degree and
doctoral degree. The point of an estimate is 3.44, which has the closest value to an associate
degree, and not having a bachelor’s degree. The value is also very closest to the median of the
possible answers, and it is halfway between a bachelor’s degree and an associate degree. The
value of the 95 percent confidence interval is 3.44 +- of 0.12. The upper boundary has a value of
4
3.56 while the lower boundary has a value of 3.33. The results indicate that average respondents
The point of the estimate is 0.03, which has doctoral degrees. The value of the 95 percent
confidence interval is 0.03 +- of 0.075. The result indicates that only 3 percent have doctoral
People in the survey are asked about their marital status. The survey has only two
options, which begin with 1 (refers to married people), and 2 (refers to single people). The point
of the estimate is 1.62 which has a standard deviation of 0.49. The value of the 95 percent
confidence interval is 1.62 +- of 0.05. The upper boundary has a value of 1.67 while the lower
boundary has a value of 1.58. The results indicate that average respondents are more single
rather than married (NIH, 2022). Similarly, the point of estimate for a “single or other”, and
contain 276 respondents is 0.62, which has doctoral degrees. The value of the 95 percent
confidence interval is 0.62 +- of 0.02. The result indicates that 62 percent of respondents are
To have a 95 percent in the confidence interval, with a 0.05 margin of error, there is a
need to increase the sample size. Manhattan (Variable 1) should have a sample size of 1,358
while Brooklyn should have a sample size of 1,928. The desirable sample size for the Bronx is
2,842.17 while the desirable sample size for queens should be 1,963. Finally, the sample size for
Staten Island should be 1,825.68. The margin of error for Brooklyn is the smallest among all
5
variables, which shows that numbers are less spread out, and it requires fewer numbers to reach
the margin of error as compared to those numbers that are spread out more (Zach, 2021).
Below, the table shows the specific type of data ask which is concluded from the survey.

Conclusion
It is clear from the results that Brooklyn has the most positive attitude towards the
respondents, while The Bronx has the most spread out responses and has the largest boundary
range of 95 percent confidence interval of catching the mean values. Queens has the least
6
positive attitude among all other variables. The result for education level indicates that only 3
percent have a doctoral degree, with a margin of error of 0.0075. The result for marital status
indicates that 62 percent of respondents are single or other with a margin of error of 0.02.
