A Peek at our Month
Reading
In reading we will read some opinion pieces. We then will
practice analyzing the text structure to help us use our
reading strategies when comprehending text. We will also
focus on the text structure and answering questions about
the text without using our opinion. We will also complete
another Reading Assessment Prep. They will read a passage,
use a “Tips for Answering Questions” chart and independently
answer various question types. We will reflect on the
strategies they use and practice RAP.

Math
In continuing with our fraction unit, we will work on
comparing fractions by analyzing our fraction cards and
placing them on a number line. We will study decimals and
order them from least to greatest. We will focus on adding,
subtracting and multiplying fractions. They will understand
how to change improper fractions into mixed numerals.
Writing
This month students will complete another Guided Writing
Performance Task. They will practice analyzing different sources
on a single topic, taking notes, answering questions, and writing a
report based on what they’ve learned. This will help prepare them
for the end of year assessment. We will then move onto our
personal narrative unit. They will explore using sensory details and
transitional words and how authors use them to help readers
connect ideas or events in a story.
Social Studies
We will learn how the government has influenced the events in
South Dakota history. We will investigate how the SD government
was formed, how the SD Constitution compares to the U.S.
Constitution, and how SD state government compares to SD tribal
government.
