II. Existing Competitors if any – Introduce, Strengths, Weaknesses (1 - Pat)

 Lawyers Online PH
 Legalex
 Insert concepts learned in class – first mover advantage?
Lawyers Online PH started during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Due to the heightened quarantine
restrictions disallowing face to face consultations, it was very challenging for individuals to
access critical legal services, leaving legal concerns of individuals and firms pending and
escalating. The founders deemed it necessary to start an online legal platform called Lawyers
Online PH, dedicated to bridging the gap between clients in need and experienced legal
experts. Though the online legal firm started as a response to the lack of accessibility during the
pandemic, it continues to provide online legal services to Filipinos given the digital era, whether
at home or abroad [1].

Legalex is a tech company in the Philippines catering to Filipino clients and lawyers. The firm
works closely with lawyers and connects clients to these lawyers for any legal concerns. Aiming
to be the main platform for Filipinos and small and medium enterprises, their service is available
anytime, anywhere [2].
Growth Opportunities
In the Philippines, it is very challenging to find a lawyer and even more so avail of the lawyer’s
services mainly due to the expensive pricing of consultation, representation and paper works.
This unaddressed need of Filipinos opened a door of opportunity for firms to venture into the
online lawyer services, providing a more convenient and cheaper means for customers and for
lawyers to reach the untapped markets of the country.
The Covid-19 pandemic has also played a role in defining how we make purchases or avail
services and how we currently do our work, from everything in-person to mostly online
transactions, taking advantage of the convenience, safety and adapting to the technological
practice of consumers and suppliers alike.
Learning below the advantages and disadvantages of online lawyer service, there is indeed
potential to offer a unique service that will create value for customers and capture value for the
firm. The digital evolution also strengthens the need to innovate services, including that of
lawyer services, to ensure sustained demand for this type of services. In terms of technological
feasibility, it is deemed doable given other similar players in the market and developer
availability and could be easily commercialized through websites, various social media platforms
and app stores.

Advantages of Online Lawyer Service:

Ø The sites/apps are relatively easy to use, convenient and straight-forward
Ø Fees are usually less expensive compared to what a typical lawyer would charge
Ø Cultivates a more transparent communication through timely updates as compared with
traditional lawyer services which has some delays in feedback or billing
Ø Wider national/global client reach
Ø More options in choosing a certified lawyer that could help with legal concerns
Ø Business model gives time freedom to both clients and lawyers
Ø Adoption of legal firms to the digital transformation era

Disadvantages of Online Lawyer Service:

Ø In-person meetings makes it easier to have an exchange of information between clients
and lawyers, clearer communication of intentions and expectations
Ø Instead of a direct relationship, the online legal firms act as ‘middleman’ to lawyers and
clients
Ø There is a tendency for inaccurate or incomplete information which could result to some
unfavorable consequences
Ø Older generation of lawyers might find it hard adopting to the technological ask of this
service
Ø There are no clear governance/regulation around online legal services in the Philippines

KARI SCRIPT
Good evening everyone. We are group 3. I am Kari and together with me are Ciara, Denz,
Camila, and our two lawyers, Jed and Ralph.

Let us present to you KonsultaJD.

Let me discuss the need. Allow us to share with you the results of the mini survey we conducted.
[next slide]

Out of 23 respondents, 17 already availed of a lawyer’s service, while the remaining 7 haven’t.
We started the survey with this to gauge whether the respondents were answering based on
their experience or based on their assumptions. Majority of the respondents, 70%, already
availed of a lawyer’s service.

For the demographics, out of the 23 respondents, 20 are between 18 to 30 years of age. While 2
are 30 to 40 years old, and one respondent is more than 40 years old. [next slide]

We then asked them; should any legal concern arise, do you have access to a lawyer? 14 said
yes while 9 said no.

Moreover, we asked the respondents; how difficult is it to access lawyers? The range is from
minutes to hours indicating that lawyers are easily reached to weeks up to months indicating that
lawyers are very difficult to reach should a need arise. The results are mostly in the middle with
9 respondents, meaning accessing a lawyer might be difficult but not impossible.
Konsulta JD wanted to bridge this gap, to provide everyone access to lawyers. With Konsulta
JD, the 9 respondents who do not have access to a lawyer can talk to one in a matter of
minutes. Moreover, the difficulty of accessing lawyers will also be solved by Konsulta JD.
Everyone can reach a lawyer with just a few clicks.
Diving more in the needs to be availed by the users, we also asked them What are the usual
legal services you will avail yourself of or will you more likely avail?

22 out of the 23 respondents answered legal advice or consultation. Followed by contract or

document review and preparation of legal documents with 17 out of 23. 5 respondents answered
drafting of pleadings, motions, or judicial papers, and 4 answered legal memorandum
preparation.

This indicates that most needs or wants access to a lawyer for consultation or legal advice
purposes followed by document review and preparation. These top 3 services can be freely
discussed and accomplished through online interaction.

With the services provided comes the fees. We asked the respondents “How expensive do you
think it is to avail yourself of the services of a lawyer?”

Most of the answers are leaning towards not cheap to expensive. The respondents assume that the
services offered by lawyers are not that cheap.

Moreover, it is worthy to note that respondents have varying assumptions on the prices of varying
services. This might be due to the complexity of the services.

We also asked the respondents directly, whether they would avail of a legal service through an
online platform. 21 out of 23 said yes, that is 91% of the respondents.

This supports that there is really a need for an online platform for legal services.

Why will they avail of this service?

Most respondents answered convenience. Followed by urgency, then health and safety reasons. In
this age of technology, everything is literally at the tip of our fingertips, and with KonsultaJD,
that includes the legal services of our lawyers.

For the mode of payment for the legal services, 11 have chosen fixed rate, while 10 have chosen
variable rate, and the remaining 2 have chosen periodic subscription plan. This means that 11
wanted to pay a fixed rate on the usage of the platform, while 10 wanted a variable rate on their
usage of the platform. The subscription might be on a monthly or yearly basis.
Provided that there will be users of the application. Will there be lawyers who will be willing to
render their legal services through KonsultaJD? Attorney Jed will tell you more about it.
