FIVE LEVELS OF WBS

Level 1: PROJECT As stated by the project manager and the team, the first level of your
work breakdown structure (WBS) represents the project itself, or
more accurately, the project goal.
Level 2: TASKS In a work breakdown structure, the primary duties are located on
Level 2. These are often the primary project deliverables.
Level 3: SUBTASKS Subtasks, or mid-sized tasks or deliverables, are level 3 elements of
a work breakdown hierarchy. Subtasks list everything that must be
done in order to finish the primary tasks and, ultimately, the project's
goal.
Level 4: WORK PACKAGES The smallest deliverables or components in a work breakdown
structure (WBS) are work packages, sometimes referred to as
terminal items. Work packages are typically collections of tasks or
sequences that, when completed, result in the deliverable mentioned
in the level before this one.
Level 5: ACTIVITIES Within a work breakdown structure, activities are either project-
specific or elective. The decision made by upper management or the
project itself will probably determine whether or not you incorporate
them.
