DEFINETION

Vernacular architecture is a category of architecture, based on localized

needs and construction material, and reflecting local traditions.
All forms of vernacular architecture are built to meet specific needs.
accommodating the values, economies and ways of life of the cultures that
produce them.
HISTORY

Some historians argue that the majority of all buildings built before the mid 17th
century are considered vernacular because formal architects did not oversee
these builds. Instead, idyllic country cottages were built by local tradesmen
implementing locally learned skills.

Its structure is made up of rammed earth load-

bearing walls on the ground and first floors, and
adobe walls on the third floor.

On each floor, perpendicular to its maximum

length, we find two rammed earth walls, acting
as partition walls to generate three interior

vernacular architecture in
Morocco
In Morocco, vernacular or earthen architecture
harbors ancestral know-how and an invaluable
collective memory.
Unfortunately, in Morocco or elsewhere, these
traditional earth techniques have long been
ignored.

Vernacular architecture in Morocco constitutes a

heritage of incomparable historical, cultural and
memorial importance. This architecture
represents one of the most remarkable elements
of the rural landscapes in all the pre-Saharan
oases of southern Morocco.( ksour - kasbah-rural

CONCLUSION
After all, in a few years' time what is considered today a contemporary design
will become the vernacular architecture for the future generations to study.
Therefore, in this respect, the responsibility of keeping the vernacular traditions
of a built environment alive at any given context lies in the architect's hands and
is something that shall not be neglected or underestimated
