• A massa do bosão de Higgs não é prevista pela teoria! (Parâmetro livre)
‣ Motivo principal pelo que demorou tanto a ser observado!
• Mas prevê todo o resto: secções eficazes, BR, ...
‣ Previsões muito precisas que podem ser testadas experimentalmente!
• Propriedades:
‣ Campo escalar → spin = 0
‣ Partícula neutra: carga = 0
‣ Sem cor → não sente a força forte
‣ Interage com as outras partículas com intensidade proporcional à massa das outras partículas

Os decaimentos do bosão de Higgs
• Vamos considerar mH ∼ 125 GeV
‣ mW = 80.4 GeV, mZ ∼ 90 GeV, pelo que não pode decair a dois bosões W ou dois
bosões Z reais
‣ mt ∼ 175 GeV, pelo que também não pode decair a pares de quarks top
• Massas dos outros fermiões:
‣ mb ∼ 4.2 GeV ➢mu, md ∼ 1 − 6 MeV
‣ mc ∼ 1.2 GeV ➢mτ ∼ 1.7 GeV
‣ ms ∼ 100 MeV ➢mμ ∼ 100 MeV
➢me ∼ 0.5 MeV
• Focar-nos nos fermiões
‣ Podemos estimar os decaimentos dominantes
‣ Os decaimentos a bosões são mais complicados 32
