PURPOSE
This Work Instruction assures proper installation of Solaris 10 software into Modified Ultra 45 Computer
system.

SCOPE
This Work Instruction will be applied in manufacturing by a trained technician.

INSTRUCTIONS
Note: Ensure the Modified Ultra 45 Computer is not installed in the Acquisition Station when
installing software.

Note: There is a screen saver that will blank the screen if the mouse or keyboard are not used for
10 minutes. Wiggle the mouse or press a keyboard key to redisplay the screen.

Note: On occasion a Solaris system message will display on the screen and push the installer
application window up on the screen. When this happens the active buttons (i.e. Continue
ect.) are still located in their original position. Scrolling over the area with the mouse will
cause the buttons to redisplay so they can be pressed.

Setup
1. Get “Solaris 10 Media” disk package

2. Make all cable connections to the Ultra 45 including the network connection to bge0.

3. Power on the Ultra 45.

4. When the screen displays “Initializing Memory “, press Stop-A.

5. Put Solaris 10 Software CD 1 of 5 into CDROM Drive.

6. When the screen displays “OK”, type Boot cdrom and then press Return. (about 5 minutes).

7. Select a Language - Type 0 (English) and Press Return. (Ensure that the mouse cursor is over
the displayed window before typing.)

8. Welcome - Select Next.

9. Network Connectivity - Select Networked then Select Next.

10. Configure Multiple Network Interfaces – Select bge0 then Select Next.

11. DHCP for bge0 Select NO then Select Next.

a. Host Name for bge0 - Type in selenia (lower case) then Select Next.

b. IP Address for bge0 - Type in 172.16.2.4 then Select Next.

c. Netmask for bge0 - Type in 255.255.0.0 then Select Next.

d. IPV6 for bge0 - Select No then Select Next.

e. Set the Default Route for bge0 – Select None then Select Next.

12. Kerberos – Select No then Select Next.

13. Name Service - Select None then Select Next.

14. Time Zone - Select Geographic Region then Select Next...

15. Continent and Country - Under Americas, Under United States, Select Eastern Time then
Select Next.

16. Date and Time - Verify Date and Time and change as necessary then Select Next.

17. Root Password – Type linx in both boxes and Select Next. (Note: You will only see *’s as you
type.)

18. Confirm Information - Confirm settings match those entered above then Select Confirm.

19. Welcome – Select Next.

20. Installer Options

a. Reboot automatically after software installation? – Select Yes.

b. Eject a CD/DVD automatically after software installation? – Select Yes.

c. Select Next.

21. Specify Media - Select CD/DVD then Select Next.

22. Initializing – (about 2 min)

23. License – Select Accept then Select Next.

24. Configure Security Policy - Select No then Select Continue.

25. Select Upgrade of Initial install - Select Initial Install then Select Next.

26. Select Type of Install – Select Custom Install then Select Next.

27. Solaris Software Localizations - Select Arrow next to North America.

28. Select English(United States)(en_US)..

29. Select Next.

30. Select System Locale – Select English (United States,ISO8859-1)(en_US.ISO8859-1) then Select
Next.

31. Select Products – Leave both boxes unchecked and Select Next.

32. Additional Products – Select None then Select Next.

33. Gathering Cluster Information (about 30 seconds).

34. Select Solaris Software Group – Select Entire Group Default Packages then Select Next.

35. Disk Selection - Disk C1t0d0(bootdisk) appears in the Selected Disks column.

36. Select Next.

37. Preserve Data – Select No then Select Next.

38. Gathering Disk Space Requirements – (about 10 seconds)

39. Lay Out File Systems –

a. Select c1t0d0 from the table then Select Modify.

i. Fill out table for c1t0d0 then Select OK.

b. Select Next.

40. Ready to Install – Confirm settings and Select Install Now.

41. Installing – (about 13 minutes)

42. Pausing – Select Continue. (Note: After 90 seconds Continue will be selected automatically.)

43. Pausing – Select Continue to reboot. (Note: After 90 seconds Continue will be selected
automatically and the system will reboot on its own.) (about 3 minutes once reboot starts)

44. Type no when asked if the system’s default NFS version 4 domain name needs to be overridden.
Then press Return.

45. Specify Media – Select CD/DVD then Select Next.

46. Insert Disc - Remove Disc 1 and insert Disc 2 then Select OK.

47. Ready to Install – Select Install Now.

48. Installing – (about 12 minutes)

49. Pausing – Select Continue. (Note: After 30 seconds Continue will be selected automatically.)

50. Specify Media – Select CD/DVD then Select Next.

51. Insert Disc – Remove Disk 2 and insert Disk 3. Then Select OK. (about 3 minutes)

52. Ready to Install – Select Install Now.

53. Installing – (about 10 minutes).

54. Pausing – Select Continue. (Note: After 30 seconds Continue will be selected automatically.)

55. Specify Media – Select CD/DVD then Select Next.

56. Insert Disc – Remove Disc 3 and Insert Disc 4. Then Select OK. (about 1 minute)

57. Ready to Install – Select Install Now.

58. Installing – (about 5 minutes)

59. Pausing – Select Continue. (Note: After 30 seconds Continue will be selected automatically.)

60. Specify Media – Select CD/DVD then Select Next.

61. Insert Disc – Remove Disc 4 and Insert Disc 5. Then Select OK. (about 4 minutes)

62. Ready to Install – Select Install Now.

63. Installing – (about 15 minutes)

64. Pausing – Select Continue. (Note: After 30 seconds Continue will be selected automatically.)

65. Pausing – Select Continue. The system will now reboot. (Note: After 90 seconds Continue will
select automatically.)

66. Login as root using password linx.

67. Select Common Desktop Environment (CDE) then Select OK.

Reboot the System


1. Close any Open Windows - Double Left Click upper left of each open window.

2. Open a terminal Window - Right Click on Desktop, Select Tools, Select Terminal.

3. Type reboot -- -r and Press Return.

4. After reboot Logon as root using Password linx.

Configure EEPROM Settings


1. Type from the Terminal Window eeprom <space> verbosity=min then press Return.

Configure Network Settings


2. Right Click on empty area of Solaris desktop.

3. Select Files.

4. Select File Manager.

5. Double Click on etc folder.

6. Configure the hosts file

7. Scroll down until you see the hosts file. Double Click on the hosts file.

8. In the Text Editor, left Click below the last entry in the edit window.
Type 192.168.1.2
Press the Tab key.
Type brick
Press Return.
Type 192.168.1.1
Press the Tab key.
Type array
Press Return.

9. Select the File Tab on edit window and Select Save (needed) From the drop down menu.

Configure the netmasks file


1. Use the scroll bar to scroll down until you see the netmasks File. Double Click on the netmasks
File.

2. In the Text Editor, left Click below the last entry in the edit window.
Type 192.168.1.0
Press the Tab key.
Type 255.255.255.0
Press Return.

3. Select the File Tab on edit window and Select Save (needed) from the drop down menu.
