Theme: Coronavirus

In order to conduct this research our teacher placed us in groups. Firstly, we were

engaged in different discussions after which we chose a theme of similar interest. After some

research was done we decided on five topics and each member chose a topic. The theme we

chose to research was: Coronavarius.

Once we were settled, we agreed on the arrangements such as when we will meet and

how we would share information with each other. We researched to find information on our

given topics. Most of the research was done utilizing the internet and through communication

with our teacher and group members via online platforms such as WhatsApp and Zoom. These

mediums were used due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

We analysed the pieces gathered and were able to arrive at a decision on the most

suitable pieces for our written report. We decided to choose these three pieces: two articles and a
video so that we could answer our group's question, “How has the coronavirus affected our

Jamaican society?”

The first piece we chose to answer this question was the article from IMF News (2020)

which stated "Jamaica ramps up Social and Economic support in Covid-19 Response,” highlights

the major impacts covid-19 has brought about on Jamaica’s economy, severely affecting the

tourism sector which has a major decrease in foreign exchange earnings.

Our second piece, “The Preliminary overview of the economies of Latin America and the

Caribbean”, also helped to shed light on our focus question. This piece outlines the majority of

problems affecting the economy in a devastating way, specifically tourism, with increases and

decreases in revenue throughout the pandemic, followed by measures implemented to manage

the spread of the virus.

Our third piece entitled, “Jamaica combating the crisis together,” a two-minute Youtube

video, IMF (2020) depicted problems faced by the economy and the solutions that were done to

solve these issues. The content of each piece selected answered our focus question.
