CINEMA

The influence
As everyone knows, cinema has been a part of the entertainment industry for a long time
but it also educates us too. It creates a massive impact on people all over the world, in
other words, it helps them give a break from monotony. It has evolved greatly in recent
years too and it is a great escape from real life. Cinema is not only a form of cultural
expression, but also a means of representation. Through a film, something is
represented, be it a perceived and interpreted reality, or an imaginary world freely
created by the authors of a film.
In a lot of movies there is some sort of a moral lesson behind these stories and the
society is often greatly influenced by these values. Some of the stars acting in films
become role models for the youth who are usually quite impressionable at their age.

Entertainment that is good for the body and mind, which stimulates thinking and
creativity and expands knowledge and vocabulary for everyday matters, from the most
commonplace to business situations. One of the main actions of cinema is the ability to
make the viewer emotional and reflect. This used to address important issues involving
our society, results in a very powerful tool to reach people differently.

The history of cinema:

There is not one person that really invented cinema. However, in 1891 the Edison
Company successfully demonstrated a prototype of the Kinetoscope, which enabled
one person at a time to view moving pictures. The first to present projected moving
pictures to a paying audience were the Lumière brothers in December 1895 in Paris,
France. They used a device of their own making, the Cinématographe, which was a
camera, a projector and a film printer all in one.

At first, films were very short, sometimes only a few minutes or less. By 1914, several
national film industries were established. As more people paid to see movies, the
industry which grew around them was prepared to invest more money in their
production. Colour was first added to black-and-white movies through hand colouring
but later, the principles of colour separation were used to produce so-called ‘natural
colour’ moving images first presented to the public in 1909. It was used for films such
as “Gone With the Wind” and “The Wizard of Oz”. The first feature-length movie
incorporating synchronised dialogue was “The Jazz Singer”

During the 1930s and 1940s, cinema was the principal form of popular entertainment.
But then, even though cinema had some success in fighting the competition of
television, they never regained the position and influence they held in the 1930s and
40s, and over the next 30 years audiences dwindled. By the late 2000s, however, that
number had trebled.
Today, most people see films on television and streaming film content on computers,
tablets and mobile phones is becoming more common as it proves to be more
convenient for modern audiences and lifestyles. In the past 20 years, film production
has been profoundly altered by the impact of rapidly improving digital technology.
Most mainstream productions are now using techniques such as editing and special
effects and 3D features.

Advantages of Cinema

Cinema has a lot of advantages if we look at the positive side. It is said to be a reflection
of the society only. So, it helps us come face to face with the actuality of what’s
happening in our society. It portrays things as they are and helps in opening our eyes to
issues we may have well ignored in the past. Similarly, it helps people socialize better. It
connects people and helps break the ice. People often discuss cinema to start a
conversation or more.

Above all, it also enhances the imagination powers of people. Cinema is a way of showing
the world from the perspective of the director, thus it inspires other people too to
broaden their thinking and imagination. Most importantly, cinema brings to us different
cultures of the world. It introduces us to various art forms and helps us in gaining
knowledge about how different people lead their lives. Cinema also teaches us a thing or
two about practical life. Incidents are shown in movies of emergencies like robbery, fire,
kidnapping and more help us learn things which we can apply in real life to save
ourselves. It makes us more aware and teaches us to improvise.

Disadvantages of Cinema

While cinema may be beneficial in many ways, it is also very damaging in various areas.
Firstly, it stereotypes a lot of things including gender roles, religious practices,
communities and more. This creates a false notion and a negative impact against that
certain group of people. People also consider it to be a waste of time and money.

We decided to talk about cinema because it’s something that we both love and it’s a great way
to have some fun and escape the reality.
