• Endospermous seeds: Retain the endosperm tissue,
and is surrounded by a layer of living cells, the
aleurone layer.

• Non-endospermous seeds: The endosperm tissue is


absorbed by the cotyledons. The cotyledons then
become the food reserve for the seed.
