MY JOURNAL
I. MY LEARNINGS (What new inputs have you gained from the discussion- not to exceed 250
words)

I have so many significant learnings for today’s discussion. I learned that curriculum is too
broad to be discussed. There were lots of definitions of curriculum. Curriculum must include
the necessary goals, methods, materials and assessments to effectively support instruction
and learning. I learned that curriculum can’t stand on its own without its goal, method,
materials and assessment. I also learned today that curriculum is changing, evolving, and
growing, and it involves curriculum revision. There were types of Curriculum Change, such as
the substitution, alteration, perturbations, restructuring, and value orientation. I also learned
that there were types of curricula in school, characteristic of a good curriculum, the distinction
of curriculum, syllabus, scheme of work, course study and lesson notes, why curriculum is
important, the importance of curriculum in school and to us teachers, curriculum as process
and as product. This were the topics being presented and I learned a lot from it. I learned the
importance of curriculum not just to school but also to us teachers which serves as our guide
in our daily duties. A curriculum consider as the heart of any learning institution which means
schools or universities cannot exist without curriculum. So, imagine if there’s no curriculum,
of course a teacher can’t perform to his duties well, coming to school unprepared which may
affect also the performance and learning of a student. Curriculum is very essential to school,
to us teachers and to community.

II. MY REALIZATION (What are your insights gained out from your learnings- not to exceed 250
words)
After the lesson, I realized the importance of curriculum, it is needed to change or to
revise in order to improve and develop its content. Change is very hassle, but after learning
from the lesson that was being discussed, I realized that curriculum should and needed to
change especially if there’s lacking or unable to meet the student’s need. I realized that it is
changing for the better. Many researchers have undergone the study to change it because
making a curriculum is not easy. Of course for them, it is also hassle to change the old that
has been already implemented but since their aim to meet the student’s need, to help, to
equip every student, they are trying their best to give the best curriculum to the school. I
realized also that in implementing a curriculum, there’s a lot of things to be consider. Before,
I thought there is just one curriculum but after listening to the report, I realized that I am
wrong. A certain school or should I say, different school may use different types of curricula.
The curriculum is based on the needs of people, the student. So curriculum was not made or
was not change just to add a hassle but to help student and prepare them for their future.
New curriculum is really helping the 21st Century Learner, there were too exposed in
technology which were the advantage nowadays. Since we are in the 21st Century, everyone,
the teachers and the learners were expected to be globally competitive as such, it is need to
acquire all the skills that are needed.

III. MY PLEDGE (What will be your action from that realization- not to exceed 500 words)
As teacher, I’ll try my best to teach not just the subject but to teach them moral values. As
teacher, the second parent of a child/learner/student, it is my duty to ensure that they
learning in school not only the academic content but also the proper behavior, manners,
values that are very important to their life. I’ll be patient in teaching each learner for them to
understand the subject and the curriculum as well. Of course, it is also a challenge for them
to have a new curriculum or example when the pandemic hit the world. It was two years
battling the crisis, and we can deny the fact that it was really a burden for us, the new normal,
the new settings and new system but education doesn’t stop, no one can stop education.
Department of Education was making a way to continue the learning of a child. It was a
challenge for all of us, especially the new normal that needed to be followed. But since,
everyone and no one should be left behind, teachers support the program and the changes
in the curriculum, to bring the school and the learning to each learner’s home. I am proud to
say that I am one of those teacher who didn’t cut the learning but extend the helping hand
especially to those who can’t get the modules to school. There were many ways on how to
reach your student and as teacher, it is my job to do so. From time to time, curriculum may
change again and again, but I’ll assure every learner to treat them fairly with all my heart, to
teach them all the needed skills and knowledge, to equip them to be prepared for their future.
